Can you catch shiny Paras in Pokémon GO?

Too bad Spore isn't in Pokemon GO.

With all the generation one love that Pokémon GO has been given out recently, it seems like Paras has been overlooked. Most of the other Kanto Grass types seem to be more popular, such as Vileplume, Bulbasaur, and Victreebel. Paras will be getting a Spotlight Hour very soon, though, and trainers have a good chance of catching its shiny version.

How to catch shiny Paras in Pokémon GO

Paras will be the subject of a Spotlight Hour happening Aug 8, 2023 from 6pm to 7pm local time. During this time, shiny Paras will be available, so it's certainly worth trying to rack up as many Paras encounters as possible during the hour. The bonus for the Paras Spotlight Hour will be double catch stardust.

Shiny Paras can be a little tough to spot, so be forewarned. When compared to the normal Paras sprite, shiny Paras' coat is simply a darker red. Definitely keep a look out for this subtle change when hunting for shiny Paras.

Paras can be a difficult Pokemon to use in battle, mostly because of its typing. The combination of Bug and Grass means that it takes quadruple damage from Flying and Fire moves. It evolves into Parasect with only 50 candies, though.

Paras is the second Pokémon to get a Spotlight Hour in August, following Vulpix. Next week will feature Stufful, the Normal and Fighting-type bear from the Alola region. The month closes out with another Kanto Pokémon, this one being Venonat.
