Niantic is finally updating Mega Evolutions to make them more attainable and worthwhile for Pokémon Go trainers. Before this update, players would need to complete several Mega Raids and acquire a pretty hefty number of Mega Candies before the Mega Evolution would become available for a Pokémon. Players would then Mega Evolve their Pokémon, but its effects would only last four hours.
What is new in the Mega Evolution Update?
Mega Evolutions are fundamentally changed with the release of this new update, which is available only in select areas at the moment. Pokémon that have been Mega Evolved in the past will automatically gain the ability to Mega Evolve at any time, though players will need to wait for a cooldown timer to run out before Mega Evolving again.

Mega Levels
Those wishing to Mega Evolve their Pokémon for the first time will still need to save up the appropriate amount of Mega Candies, though every time that they Mega Evolve that Pokémon again it can be done for free. Players must simply wait for the cooldown to run out before they can Mega Evolve again. Each time a Pokémon is Mega Evolved, its Mega Level increases, which gives more bonuses.
Mega Raid Difficulty
With this new update, Mega Raids can be completed with fewer trainers. This means that skilled trainers should be able to take down a Mega Raid with small groups, which eliminates some of the difficulty that comes along with acquiring Mega Evolved Pokémon and their Candies.
