Pressing the magnifying glass opens the Search mode tab, but you will still need to enable the mode. To enable Search mode, click Enable at the bottom of the box.

Once enabled, you will be able to forage in Project Zomboid by walking around in an area. You will eventually see a white eye icon pop up over your head the longer you walk and search.

The white eye icon pop-up tells you when you have located a forageable item. But before you see an eye icon, you will see an arrow. When the arrow appears, it will point you in the direction of a forageable item.

Follow the arrow until the eye icon turns a solid color. After it turns a solid color, move around until you reveal the foraged item.
