In Remnant 2's Dark Horizon DLC, you will be able to access a unique new game mode called Boss Rush. In these, you will be able to battle against a succession of named Aberrations and bosses to farm some resources and relic fragments in a Rogue-like quick succession of bosses.
Boss Rush Modes Guide - Remnant 2 Dark Horizon
Boss Rush is a trial of boss after boss used to farm for items in way that really removes the worst of the RNG parts of trying to pick up these items. There are three levels of Boss Rush, each having more bosses than the previous level and more rewards too. You can either enter this mode with your current character or a brand-new one; to access it, interact with the large glowing portal stone in Ward 13, then click on World Settings. Boss Rush will be in this menu. Here are all three levels and what they require to complete.
- Triple Threat: You take on three bosses in a row with an Aberration elite in between each.
- Trial By Fire: There are six bosses in a row in this one, and then it ends with Annihilation.
- The Gauntlet: In this one, you take down 18 bosses, then have to take down Annihilation at the end.
In each of the above trials, you can also choose a difficulty level. Higher difficulty levels give better rewards and more XP. These are:
- Survivor: Normal mode.
- Veteran: Hard mode.
- Nightmare: Challenge mode for anyone who is fully decked out in great gear.
- Apocalypse: The tagline for this mode is just "Good luck," so you can kind of guess what this will be like. Not for the faint of heart for sure.

How boss rushes work in Remnant 2
First thing, you will have to take down several normal enemies and a named Aberration elite. After the Aberration is dead, you will have a brief grace period where nothing spawns to give you some time to find the Power Pylon and any treasure chests. Once you have cleaned out all the items, you can move onto the next room, or you can stay for a bit to farm Mod power-ups or ammo for the boss.
Just about any boss can spawn for the boss rushes with the exception of Annihilation. Annihilation doesn't seem to appear at all in Triple Threat, and it is always the final boss for both Trial By Fire and The Gauntlet. Once you defeat the boss, you will be healed of all status effects (at least on Survivor mode; this may not apply for more challenging modes). Bosses don't restore any of your Mod power or ammo.
After the Elite is down, you can go to the Power Pylon and pick up a buff; you can find this altar-like structure by looking for its special icon on the mini-map that appears after the Aberration has been downed. This buff will last until the end of the Boss Rush. After bosses, there will also be a treasure chest somewhere on the map that contains a Mutator. If you already have than Mutator, the chest will give you a Corrupted Lumenite Crystal instead.
Round two will begin once you go into the next room; you will once again have to take down a bunch of enemies, then an Aberration elite, then the boss. This will repeat until you have run out of bosses. A quick note on bosses: while you do earn some rewards and XP from bosses, you will not get any weapons or boss items from Triple Threat runs, but you can get them on the other two modes.
Rewards from Boss Rushes in Remnant 2
There are a lot of items that you earn or can farm from doing Boss Rushes over and over again. Even on the easiest level, you will be able to fill up your inventory with all sorts of useful things (bolded items are from World bosses only). These include:
- Mutators
- Rings
- Corrupted Lumenite Crystals
- Lumenite
- Random consumes
- Relic Dust
- Corrupted Shards
- XP
- Simulacrum
- Scrap
- Corpse Drop
- Cass Items
- Mutators
- Boss items (on Trial by Fire or The Gauntlet only)
What is the best build for Boss Rush in Remnant 2?
There isn't a best build per se for Boss Rushes. You will mainly want to stick with the build you are comfortable with, but with one key thing: you need something to help you out with ammo. The Boss Rushes do not have a whole lot of ammo lying around, and you might find yourself without any bullets by the end if your gun isn't efficient.
In order to help out with this lack of ammo, I recommend the Galvanized Resupply Band ring or the Zero Divide Amulet, depending on what equipment slots you have available to you. This will help to mitigate the lack of ammo in these runs. Another thing you want to make sure you have is a form of consistent self-healing, especially if you are running these solo.
One thing I noticed with the Boss Rushes is how great it was for leveling new Archetypes. If you pop on one Archetype you haven't used much yet, like your brand-new Warden Archetype from this DLC, you will be able to get to level 2 in basically one run of Triple Threat on Survivor (and to max level with one completed Gauntlet run with some XP buffs). It's great for getting those first levels in any new build-out you want to try. You can also remove one of your Archetypes to make sure all the XP goes toward the one you want to level faster. If one of your class is max level, all the XP goes to the non-max level class.
All buffs in Boss Rush - Remnant 2
There are many, many buffs available in Boss Rush. The number of unique buffs you can have is capped at five with +5 to each buff, so after you get the first few, you will only see those from then on. While this list isn't going to have all of them, these are the buffs I have seen while playing the DLC so far (check back for updates). For each buff you choose, regardless of which buff you pick, you gain an additional 10% damage on top of buff.

All possible bosses for the boss rush in Remnant 2
There are a grand total of 35 bosses possible to come across in the Boss Rush. If you don't have the Awakened King, Dark Horizon, or Forgotten Kingdom DLCs, you will be short 13 of those possible bosses (unless you are playing online with someone who does own these DLCs). When you start a Boss Rush, you will take on one boss, a second boss, then a world boss; that pattern repeats until you finish your run.

How to beat Annihilation in Remnant 2
Since Annihilation will be the final boss for almost all of your Boss Rush runs, you might be wondering what is the best way to take this monstrous final challenge down. It is not the easiest fight, but there are a couple of things you can do to make it a little easier for yourself. The first thing I recommend is to turn the music volume all the way down. There are a lot of audio clues that you can start to pick out, especially if the music is not in the way; it makes a massive difference.
The buffs you take can also be helpful. Things like Vigor, Renewal, or Hardened will help with healing and damage reduction. Anything that helps to keep you alive during this challenging battle. There are two phases to this fight; the first is pretty straightforward, but the second will try to overwhelm you with visual noise and switching back and forth between two different dimensions.
PHASE | ATTACK | HOW TO AVOID |
---|---|---|
Phase 1 and 2 | When Annihilation leans backwards, it will then slam down its sword. | Dodge left or right. |
Roots player to the ground, giving Data Corruption. | Can be dodged. When caught, mash the button indicated to get out. | |
Stabs the ground 1, 2, or 3 times. Shockwaves appear with each hit | Dodge through shockwaves while avoiding the sword. | |
Slams hand into the ground, throwing out a shockwave. | Dodge through shockwave. | |
Annihilation will summon several glowing balls. | Shoot the balls before they explode on you. | |
Sword attack with right hand, then left hand. | Dodge away from the right hand, then dodge toward it with the left hand attack. | |
Annihilation flies up into the air, then flies down at the player one or two times. | Use its air time to heal then dodge the sweep. | |
Phase 2 only | Roots come up through the floor, blocking your movement. | Avoid them. |
A root sweeps the area. | Dodge through the attack. | |
It slams the ground with a hand, making a pool of Blight. | Don't stand in the Blight as it will build up Blight on you. | |
Annihilation can create a network of lightning across the ground. It then swings its sword. | Dodge through the sword attack while avoiding the lightning. | |
A barrage of arrows | Move outside the area the arrows will hit. | |
Annihilation makes a bunch of glowy balls, then attacks with blasts. | Shoot all the balls before the detonate. If you get them all, it will stun Annihilation. | |
Annihilation can freeze the world, switching between the "real" and "digital" worlds. | It will complete the last attack it queued up, so make sure to be ready to dodge it when the switch is complete. |
