Rise of the Ronin gameplay trailer pulls you with a grappling hook

The way of samurai.

Team Ninja and KOEI Tecmo have shown the Rise of the Ronin gameplay trailer during the State of Play event. Here's what we've learned about the world, character movement, and combat mechanics.

There are various stances and combat styles that you can use against your enemies. A parry feature, too, lets you deflect powerful attacks and disrupt enemies' stances. The ronin can use a grappling hook to pull the enemies toward him and finish them off or to launch himself into bigger opponents. The only thing missing is the character yelling: "Come here!"

The weapons in Rise of the Ronin are not only katanas but also handguns. Igashichi, the inventor, is an essential figure in this aspect, as he can make some exciting devices that combine Japanese and Western weapons.

There are several ways of traversing, including lunging over buildings using the grappling hook. These mechanics remind me of Sekiro (or Tenchu games, remember those?) and allow for some exciting situations. While in the air, you can use a glider-like device called Avicula. You can even switch your vehicles in the middle of the movement. For example, you can jump from the Avicula to a horse!

Rise of the Ronin is a samurai-action game set in 19th-century Yokohama. The developers didn't choose Yokohama randomly because it was one of the first ports in Japan that were open for foreign trade. This PS5 exclusive release date is March 22, 2024. Below is the State of Play Rise of the Ronin gameplay trailer.
