Moderation Messages

According to Roblox's guidelines, moderation messages are sent to users after they've violated one of the above rules or expectations. Examples of these messages can be found below.

Messages sent because of Inappropriate Behavior:

  • "Do not post about your moderation actions, or additional moderation actions may be taken against your account. If you would like to discuss your bans, please use the Appeals system as described on your ban report."
    • Moderation actions are not allowed to be discussed on Roblox.
  • "The only links you are allowed to post on Roblox are roblox.com links, youtube.com links, twitter.com links, and twitch.tv links. No other links are allowed. Posting any other links will result in further moderation actions."
    • Outside of the designated social media links on profiles, you are not allowed to share any links other than the 4 listed here.
  • "Your user name is inappropriate for Roblox. For further assistance, please contact us via the Support Form."
    • Roblox has found your name to be in violation of the Terms of Service.
  • "Do not repeatedly post or spam chat or content in Roblox."
    • You were caught flooding the chat with either the same message repeatedly or placing random characters repeatedly. An example of this would be, "fidiuaciuabiucbiubiw."
  • "Do not ask for or give out personal, real-life, or private information on Roblox."
    • Preventing personally identifiable information from being released is a top priority of Roblox, therefore any personally identifiable information is not allowed on Roblox.
  • "Do not create accounts just for the purpose of breaking the rules."
    • Roblox has found that the account was created with the primary intent of breaking the Terms of Service.
  • "Dating, Sexting, or other inappropriate behavior is not acceptable on Roblox."
    • Roblox is not a dating site. Sexually explicit chat between users is not tolerated on Roblox. Roblox also does not allow conversations requesting boyfriends/girlfriends, or talking about any form of romantic relationship, including weddings.
  • "This content is not appropriate for Roblox. Do not chat, post, or otherwise discuss inappropriate topics on Roblox."
    • This could include drugs/alcohol, sexual innuendos/references, or anything else that is not considered to be age appropriate for Roblox.
  • "Do not swear, use profanity or otherwise say inappropriate things in Roblox."
    • Profanity and swearing are not allowed on Roblox.

Messages sent because of Harassment/Discriminatory violations:

  • "Roblox does not permit discriminatory speech, content, or actions based on race or ethnic origin, national origin, religion or religious affiliation, gender, gender identity, or sexual orientation."
    • Discriminatory speech or content is material that attacks a person or group based on attributes such as race, religion, ethnic origin, national origin, sex, disability, sexual orientation, or gender identity.
  • "The derogatory language you are using here is not permitted on Roblox"
    • Misogyny is the hatred of, contempt for, or prejudice against women or girls. Misogyny is manifested in numerous ways, including social exclusion, sex discrimination, hostility, androcentrism, patriarchy, male privilege, belittling of women, violence against women, and sexual objectification.

    • Harassment is targeted behavior toward a specific individual or group, using degrading or humiliating language.

Messages sent because of scamming related behavior:

  • "Scamming is a violation of the Terms of Service. Do not continue to scam on Roblox."
    • Roblox has determined from the evidence provided to them that you were attempting to scam another player or group of players.
  • "Posting information that claims to be able to exploit Roblox is a violation of our Terms of Service. If you continue to do so, your account will be subject to further moderation actions."

  • "Do not create games that offer Robux as a prize. These kinds of games are considered scams, as there is not an official system to guarantee a prize. If you persist in creating these games, your account will be subject to additional moderation actions."
    • Roblox cannot guarantee a payout by a game to a player. Promising a payout of Robux to anyone under any pretense is considered a scam.
  • "Advertising Robux payouts is prohibited as there is not a system that ensures specific rules are followed or that the offered prize is granted. We realize you did not intend to scam, but please do not offer these on Roblox."

  • "Please do not create games, shirts, or post comments about this tragic event. We understand that you intended this to be a respectful memorial, but we can't risk having other players behave in an inappropriate manner in or around the content you’re posting."
    • Do not upload posts/games/assets created as a memorial/remembrance such as large-scale natural disasters or attacks, i.e. 9/11, mass shootings, tsunamis, etc. We recognize that it may not have been a form of disrespect but we can’t risk other players using these events in a disrespectful/inappropriate manner.

Messages sent because of an Image Content violation:

  • "This image is not appropriate for Roblox. Please review our rules and upload only appropriate content."
    • The image file includes something that is not appropriate for Roblox. This could include drugs/alcohol, sexual innuendos/references, or anything else that is not considered to be age appropriate for Roblox.

    • The audio file is not able to be listened to through our moderation system due to an encoding error with the upload, or the file type is not one that we accept. Changing the file type to one of our accepted file types should allow the audio file to be listened to.
  • "This audio file contains content that is inappropriate for Roblox."
    • The audio file includes content that is not appropriate for Roblox. This could include drugs/alcohol, sexual innuendos/references, or anything else that is not considered to be age appropriate for Roblox.

  • "Uploading distorted audio files are not permitted. Please make sure your files can be easily and clearly heard."
    • Audio files that are slowed down, sped up, or pitch changed to a level to where the lyrics cannot be heard fall under this category. As a general rule of thumb, if you cannot understand it, no one else can either.

What Moderation Messages mean

Moderation messages are a way in which the Roblox team communicates with users who have violated one, or many, of their safety rules and guidelines. These messages are sent out after a user has been reported for one of the reasons mentioned above. The frequency at which these messages appear oftentimes depends on the severity of the accusation and how many reports were received.

Time Frame for Bans

Similarly to the frequency mentioned above, the length of time an account is blocked depends on the severity of the behavior and how many reports were received. The levels of ban-time can be found below.

  • Warning - A user can get back into their account right away if they agree to the Terms of Use
  • 1 day ban - 24 hours from the time the moderation was initiated
  • 3 day ban - 72 hours from the time the moderation was initiated
  • 7 day ban - 1 week from the time the moderation was initiated
  • Deletion - The account has been closed and can not automatically be reopened

According to the FAQ on the Understanding Moderation Messages page, accounts are rarely deleted. Typically this course of action is only utilized if the perpetrator in question committed an extremely serious offense. In most cases, accounts are banned for three days and then reinstated as normal.

Appealing a ban

If you're ever banned and feel as though a mistake has been made, or you'd just like to know more information regarding your ban, Roblox offers the ability for users to appeal their account moderations. The form to fill out can be found here. As mentioned by Roblox, filling out the form does not automatically mean that your account will be reinstated, it simply means that your case will be re-looked into.
