New Roblox developer starter kit available through Humble Bundle

Interested in becoming a Roblox developer? Check this out!

Humble Bundle has released four starter kits for those looking to step into the world of Roblox development for the first time or even those looking to improve their existing skills. Beyond this, these kits can be purchased for a price of the buyer's choosing, with a portion of all proceeds going towards Code.org, Girls Who Code, and Children's Miracle Network Hospitals. The four kits in this bundle explain how to use Lua, Roblox's primary code, and create FPS experiences, arena combat experiences, and obstacle course experiences.

The first kit, Exploring Roblox Scripting with Lua, promises to teach users how to set up arrays for data storage, repeat blocks of code using loops, create custom functions for personalized game mechanics, and utilize and implement built-in Roblox events. Though this kit does focus primarily on using and becoming comfortable with Lua, it also serves as an introduction to other code languages.

The second kit, Creating an Arena Combat Roblox Game, aims to teach users how to set up a lobby teleportation system, create an arena using free assets, implement a time-based system, track player stats with a leaderboard, control GUI elements, and manage combat across a wide network. This kit will guide users through the process of building their own battle royale-style experience from scratch.

The third kit, Making a First Person Shooter with Roblox, describes how to set up multiplayer lobbies, build levels, manage leaderboards, create and implement health and ammo packs, and handle shooting from multiple players at once. Not only that, but this kit will also look into and explain the importance of the first-person camera aspect of an FPS. That's why it's so crucial—even in Roblox.

The fourth and final kit, Intro to Roblox Game Making, serves as a general, simplistic look into the world of Roblox development. By going through this kit, users will learn how to set up Roblox studio, scale, move, and adjust objects, create level checkpoints and moveable platforms, and ultimately save and publish their finished experiences. We would recommend working through this kit before hopping into the others.

All four of these kits can be purchased from the Humble Bundle website for a minimum donation of $20 USD, though higher donations are always accepted. Humble Bundle will be removing these kits on Dec. 1, 2021, so it's best to purchase them sooner rather than later.
