Speaking to characters is a very important part of Sea of Stars. Some can be invited to Mirth, while others will reward you with loot in exchange for personal favors. Duke Aventry is a poor, lost soul trapped in the Flooded Graveyard because of the witch Romaya, but thankfully, you can set him free by completing a few different tasks and helping him remember who he truly is. Keep reading below for all the steps!
How to free Duke Aventry in Sea of Stars
After your first confrontation with the Duke before entering the Necromancer's Lair, you'll find him off to the left of the lair in front of a different tomb entrance. Speaking to him here won't do you much good besides receiving a response that he "wishes he could remember." The first step to helping him will be to head into the tomb behind him and solve the Flooded Graveyard rune puzzle.
How to solve the Flooded Graveyard Rune Puzzle
Entering the tomb behind the Duke will lead to a barred off chest and special-looking colored runs on the wall. To solve it, however, you'll need to be able to reach Ramaya's Secret Passage, and this will require you to have your flight ability. The island is located just northeast of Wraith Island, and there, you can interact with different spinners to match the runes seen inside the tomb and unlock the chest.

Going through the Half Sunken Tower
After solving the puzzle, you'll be able to open the chest and receive Romaya's Journal. You can give this to the Duke just outside, and in return, he will give you a Yellow Flame.
Just like the Green Flame used to enter the Flooded Graveyard, you can use your Yellow Flame with the Ferryman for passage to a brand new area: Half Sunken Tower.
In this new area, use a raft and your wind gust ability to navigate around. You'll want to head off to the northeastern dock and climb up to activate the lever located there. You'll be able to get into the tower, but first, you'll need to hop back on your raft and push yourself to the other dock at the southeast corner so you can bypass the rocks and trees in the way.
Inside the tower, there is another lever for you to activate. This lever will create a walkway for you; use it to drop down onto the breakable floor below. You'll fall through the floor and into a watery area where you'll need to swim through a tidepool entrance.
After navigating through the tidepool, you'll come into a new hidden area where you'll meet Ramaya again. Through this encounter, you will learn that she has the item keeping Aventry trapped: a locket. You will need to defeat Ramaya again to get the locket from her.
This fight is much like the first time you fought her, except she will perform a new move where she lifts herself up on a stack of bones. You'll need to break down the bones to do damage to her again. You'll also want to be sure to destroy the pile of flesh and bones so she cannot reanimate any minions to her side. Once she's defeated, she will give you the locket for you to return to Duke Aventry.
Head back to the Ferryman, who will immediately take you to the Flooded Graveyard so you can return to the Duke.
How to open the coffin in the Flooded Graveyard - Sea of Stars
However, the Duke will be in a new location. You'll find him just through the main area upon arriving in the Graveyard and in the bottom left corner, near the tomb where the mysterious coffin is. Once you give him the locket, he will finally be freed and give you the Duke Aventry's Key.
Head into the tomb right behind him, and you can use the key on the coffin and receive Eclipse Armor, as well as the Aventry Crest Artifact! This is some of the best armor you can get for Valere and Zale, so you won't want to miss out on this opportunity. Plus, you've helped the Duke finally rest in peace!
