The Legendary Storyteller may be a heartwarming and fun Tall Tale about a child's dreams, but searching for the locations of the Hidden Journals can be a nightmare. These Journals regale the story of one of the crewmates of the Pirate Lord Briggsy. It provides a deeper and darker history for players to follow and recounts the transition from the daring and fun-loving adventurer Briggsy used to be. You start to learn why Tasha admired her so much, and perhaps even admire her a bit yourself.

All of what was said above is of course assuming that you're interested in the lore of the game. Whether you find yourself immersed in the story or simply want to get all the Commendations, this guide will help you locate all those difficult-to-find Journals sprawled throughout the sea.
However, before we begin, if you were actually looking to solve some part of the main questline, you can find the links to those sections below!

- Sea of Thieves | The Legendary Storyteller Tall Tale | Ancient Crest Plank Guide
We also have a few other important things to note about finding these Journals. The first and most important thing to mention is that you can only obtain while The Legendary Storyteller Tall Tale is active. If you find them while it's not active, it will not count towards the Commendation awarded for finding them. Secondly, you do not need to find these in order. Although the only way to find them without a guide is by using clues from the previous book, you can plan a faster route to collect them if you use this guide instead.
There is a straightforward way to understand this guide. Below, you'll find that we've provided the five islands on which you'll find these journals. You'll also find images that lead you to their general location and the landmarks you'll find them near. The list directly below is the entire list of islands where they're located.
- Dagger Tooth Outpost
- Galleon's Grave Outpost
- Lone Cove
- Mermaid's Hideaway
- Old Salts Atoll
Now that you have the entire list, you can plan an itinerary and route for the islands. Since you're sailing to several different islands on your quest to complete the Tall Tale, now is a perfect time to pick up Voyages to complete on the side! More often than not, the voyages will land you on one of the islands you need to visit to continue the Tale. The guide below lists the Journals in order of how they appear in the story.
Journal #1: Lone Cove
This Journal is the easiest to find for this Tall Tale, especially if one of Tasha's stories brings you to this island. The Journal is located on a rock shelf that is near the small boat in her Smallest Boat story. However, if you find that you didn't get that story, this Journal is still easy to find. You want to park your ship on the Northwest corner of the island, directly in front of the cave that faces the sea. Enter the cave and stick to the right. You will see plenty of salvage in a large room lit by glowing mushrooms. You will find the Journal in here on a rock shelf. When you read it, you'll see where you're headed next: Mermaid's Hideaway.
Journal #2: Mermaid's Hideaway
Wait, wait, wait. This is the easiest Journal to find for this Tall Tale. Like Lone Cove, you're going to want to park your Ship on the Northwest side of this island. From there, you can simply walk on to the beach and look for a campfire with a pan hanging above it for you to cook meats. Next to this campfire is a barrel that is slightly sticking out of the ground. Inside this barrel is the Journal. When you read it, you will see our next location: Old Salts Atoll.
Journal #3: Old Salts Atoll
This Journal is not particularly difficult to find, but if you're not looking closely, you can miss it. On the western beach you will see a shipwreck, with the front half of a boat sticking out of the ground. Go to the front half of the boat and walk up the slanted boards to the bowl. On the left side of the bow you will see a broken section that gives you access to the nook behind it. Inside that nook is the Journal. We told you that you might miss it! Upon reading it, you'll know where were headed next: Dagger Tooth Outpost!
Journal #4: Dagger Tooth Outpost
This Journal isn't difficult to reach, but it's hard to notice. The Taverns on all Outposts have a bookshelf on the wall right of the entrance. However, if you look closely (no one will judge you if you don't), you'll see that this bookshelf contains an extra book! Walk up to the bookshelf and you'll find this Journal resting on the top shelf. Interact with it to read it, and you'll be instructed to go to Galleon's Grave.
Journal #5: Galleon's Grave Outpost
This is the most difficult Journal we've encountered in any of the Tall Tales up to this point. It is difficult to reach, and without any instruction, we'd guess that very few people would look in the spot it's hidden. In the center of the Outpost is a large ship's bow, sticking out of a massive rock. Find the path up to this ship and climb scale the ladders, steps, and narrow walkways to reach the bow. Then go even farther: walk along the dangerous, extremely narrow bowsprit to the cages dangling off the end. You have to angle your character just right to see and interact with this book. You can see how we did it in the image above. This is the final Journal in this Tall Tale.
What's Next
When you have found all the Journals, you'll unlock The Lady Behind the Mask Commendation! This is one of the seven Commendations you must achieve to truly complete The Legendary Storyteller Tall Tale and obtain the Legendary Commendation. There are several Commendations awarded along the way as you complete the main part of this Tall Tale for the first time. Besides those (and the one you just achieved), there is only one other Commendation you need to achieve, and it requires you to complete The Legendary Storyteller five times. Our guide covers all possibilities for what islands may hold the Tall Tale's items, so feel free to go back to the start and use it again!
