How to expand the map in Shin Megami Tensei V

Clear out those Abscesses.

Shin Megami Tensei V allows players to explore open areas of the map as they aim to collect demons for their party, confront bosses, and progress through the Netherworld. Navigating through the Netherworld is made much easier with the game’s map, but it initially starts blank, and it’s up to the Nahobino to fill it in.

There are several ways for players to expand the map when traversing the Netherworld in Shin Megami Tensei V.

  1. Running through unexplored areas will slowly fill in blank portions of the map. This is a more time consuming way to expand maps in Shin Megami Tensei V.
  2. Destroying the Abscesses cluttering the map in Shin Megami Tensei V reveals large chunks of the map all at once. This is by far the most efficient way to fill in the map while exploring.

Abscesses are large purple orbs that players will find while traversing the Netherworld. Hordes of powerful enemies guard them, so players will either avoid the guards or take them out as they approach the Abscess.

Once players connect with the Abscess, a mini-boss will appear. Defeating the mini-boss will purge the area of malignant energy and the Abscess, filling in a large piece of the obscured map simultaneously.

Make sure to take out as many Abscesses as you can when exploring in Shin Megami Tensei V, as there are other rewards for destroying them.
