Sonic Colors Ultimate is one of modern Sonic’s most beloved releases, and thanks to the 2021 remaster, fans can experience this classic all over again. Those looking to 100% the game will have to track down each of its Red Star Rings, but how many of them are there?
There are 180 Red Star Rings in Sonic Colors Ultimate. Players can find these collectible items throughout the game’s levels. The overworld map will highlight how many Red Star Rings are in each level before Sonic enters them. During each level, players can also check how many Red Star Rings they’ve grabbed by checking the bottom right section of the screen.

Sonic won’t need to collect each of these rings in one attempt, thankfully. Once Sonic finishes a level, any Red Star Rings he’s obtained remain unlocked. These rings will be clear when Sonic finds them going forward.
Dying after capturing one of the Red Star Rings mid-level before hitting a checkpoint will remove it from Sonic’s inventory, unfortunately, so be careful after grabbing one.
Collecting all the Red Star Rings in a zone will grant Sonic access to the game’s seven optional stages. Completing a single one of the stages will grant Sonic one of the seven Chaos Emeralds. Once he acquires all seven Chaos Emeralds, he’ll be able to transform into Super Sonic at will in most of the game’s 40+ levels. Those interested in unlocking this character will have a long road ahead.
