Sonic Frontiers saves the Blue Blur's powerful Super Sonic form for boss fights, lending them an air of incredible power. The second big boss is a massive flying snake that'll fire countless projectiles and swing with powerful melee attacks. Once you learn the simple trick to this fight, you'll defeat Wyvern easily.
Tips for beating Wyvern in Sonic Frontiers
Just like the first boss fight with Giganto, the first challenge will be getting the seventh Chaos Emerald to attain Super Sonic form. Climb the massive tower near the center of the arena until you're eye to eye with the beast. You'll be prompted to use a homing attack on one of the spines near Wyvern's head.
After that, you'll go through a brief endless runner segment. Dodge the projectiles and pick up as many rings as possible. After completing this section, you'll be able to grab the Chaos Emerald and start the real fight.
The only thing you need to master to defeat Wyvern is the Parry mechanic. The only way to attack Wyvern is to parry his missiles and melee attacks. Don't be fooled by how close you can get to its head, you can only attack when he's stunned, and he's only stunned after being parried. Remember, parries aren't based on timing in this game. They function more like a block.
Simply place yourself in the direct path of a missile and hold down the parry buttons. You'll then be brought in close as Wyvern charges a melee strike. Parry it, and you'll be able to attack with Sonic's normal moves. You can use Sonic's quick Psy-loop to restrain Wyvern, keeping him vulnerable for slightly longer. You can also use Homing Shot to deal a great deal of damage fast.
Tips for beating Wyvern's second phase in Sonic Frontiers
After reducing Wyvern to around 50% of his health, he'll enter his second phase. He projects red stakes from his back that fire energy rings in all directions. Just avoid them and parry missiles again. He'll launch two melee attacks in his second phase, you have to parry them both to open him up.
Once Wyvern is near the end, he'll trigger a few quick-time events. Missiles will surround Sonic, prompting the same QTE from the fishing minigame. Once Wyvern catches Sonic in his mouth, mash the requested button to finish him off.
The battle with Wyvern can be frustrating, but just keep the parry stance active whenever attacks are flying and make sure to enter with as many rings as possible. Take advantage of his moments of weakness, and you'll be on to the next island in no time.
