Something very strange has been happening on the official StarCraft website ahead of BlizzCon 2026. What's this new StarCraft ARG all about? Let's dive in.
Over the past week, Blizzard has gradually hijacked its own site with corrupted transmissions, classified Dominion records, medical reports, binary messages, distressed miners, suspicious cargo, and enough redacted text to keep the StarCraft community busy until approximately 2575.
Four transmissions later, we now have a fairly clear picture of what the story is about. What we don't have is the name of the game Blizzard is almost certainly using it to tease. And with BlizzCon beginning September 12, we probably won't have to wait much longer.
What Is the StarCraft Transmissions ARG About?
The transmissions center around the Roxara Lunar Mining Complex, where the Terran Dominion has shipped classified research material under heavy military supervision. Things proceed about as well as classified biological research usually does in science fiction.
Crates seemingly change weight, sensors detect people who aren't registered, patients begin displaying impossible vital signs, personnel disappear while apparently continuing to communicate, ventilation systems fail, and a group of miners becomes trapped underground. The final transmission makes the conspiracy considerably bigger.
It reveals Project Spellbind, a Dominion operation involving multiple settlements and repeated experiments. Secret reports describe thousands of deaths at Roxara, Candore, Abaddon, and Veil IX, while public records conveniently blame much smaller casualty counts on mine fires and gas leaks.
So, just to recap: secret experiments, Zerg-like biological horrors, thousands of dead civilians, and the Dominion lying about everything. StarCraft is back, baby. Hell, it's about time.
Is the ARG Teasing Blizzard's New StarCraft Shooter?
The ARG itself never identifies the upcoming project as a shooter. It doesn't reveal a title, protagonist, platforms, or even technically confirm that these transmissions belong to a new game. The reason a shooter looks overwhelmingly likely comes from everything happening outside the ARG.
Bloomberg's Jason Schreier previously reported that Blizzard was developing another StarCraft shooter, while Windows Central's Jez Corden now says he has personally seen early test footage showing playable Terran Marines fighting Zerg in what appears to be an open-world environment with cinematic campaign presentation.
Suddenly, an ARG about Dominion soldiers investigating a disastrous biological incident shortly before BlizzCon feels considerably less subtle. Corden also reports that Dan Hay, best known for the Far Cry series, leads the project. Exactly what the finished game looks like remains unknown, and speculation about co-op, PvP, or Helldivers-style gameplay is still just that: speculation.

The ARG May Also Be Setting Up a New Era of StarCraft
Perhaps the most interesting clue isn't the shooter connection at all. The recovered documents repeatedly use the year 2575, potentially placing the story decades after StarCraft II. If those dates are literal, Blizzard could be preparing to move the franchise far beyond Raynor, Kerrigan, and the original trilogy's immediate aftermath.
There are still deliberate connections to older lore. Roxara previously appeared in the StarCraft short story Changeling, which involved a Dominion experiment using captured shape-shifting Zerg at a mining colony orbiting Roxara. The overlap is extremely suspicious, although it doesn't prove Blizzard is revisiting exactly the same experiment.
And yes, one mysterious patient identified as S. K███████ fits “Sarah Kerrigan.” It also fits other names, so I wouldn't start ordering Kerrigan comeback banners just yet. What does feel substantially safer is expecting something StarCraft-related at BlizzCon.
The event begins September 12, with Blizzard's Opening Ceremony scheduled for 10:30 AM PDT, and even our deep dive into the ARG concluded that a formal reveal there is the most likely next step.
After four increasingly grim transmissions, Blizzard has certainly gone to a lot of trouble if all it wanted to announce was another balance patch.
