Starfield Dream Home Trait – Features, Benefits, & Pictures

Welcome to home sweet home.

There are many Traits to choose from in Starfield, but one that caught my eye was Dream Home. I liked the idea of having a home at the start of the game, especially with the backstory I had for my character. That said, there are some cons to the Dream Home Trait, so let's look at the benefits of having a Dream Home in Starfield.

What is the Dream Home Trait, Explained

Selecting the Dream Home Trait gives you access to a beautiful home at the beginning of the game. It comes with a hefty mortgage of 125,000 Credits, which you must pay weekly to enter your house, which only affects the interest and not the mortgage itself.

To pay off your mortgage, you must speak to Landry Hollifeld at GalBank in New Atlantis. Here, you can pay off the full 125,000 balance in a lump sum payment, continue the weekly interest payments, or sell and foreclose the house. If you select the third option, you forfeit anything currently in the home.

Dream Home Trait Benefits and Features - Starfield

A major perk of the Dream Home Trait is having a home at the start of the game. You must trigger the Dream Home mission before visiting your luxurious house on Nesoi. Simply complete the One Small Step mission to populate the Dream Home mission, which allows you to travel to your home on Nesoi.

The Dream Home comes completely unfurnished, but you can fix this by using the computer on the wall. Interacting with this allows you to enter Build Mode. Here, you can place various furnishings to decorate your home, though you'll need to purchase them. You start with a handful of items but will ultimately need to expand your collection.

Is the Dream Home Trait worth the price?

Ultimately, this is up to you. If you want a home at the beginning of the game, this trait is the one for you. You simply need to pay 500 Credits per week or whenever you want to enter your home. With the Dream Home, you can effectively have a home at the start of the game with no large upfront cost, then pay it off whenever you feel like handing over 125,000 Credits.

That said, you can purchase homes much cheaper. Most homes range between 6,500 to 235,000 Credits, making the Dream Home somewhere in the middle. Location also matters, and your Dream Home is fairly remote in Nesoi compared to other options located in major cities. I picked up the Dream Home Trait because I wanted to roleplay a traveling professor with a fair bit of inheritance from her parents and dreams of creating the perfect laboratory to live in.
