Starfield Special Projects skill, explained

A master crafter will need this skill.

My Starfield journey began as a space professor traveling the Settled Systems in search of rare minerals, exotic animals, and beautiful flora. Along the way, I began expanding my skill set, specifically within crafting. As I progressed, I noticed the Special Projects Skill, which did not explain much in its description. As a result, I wondered what the Special Project Skill was in Starfield.

What does the Special Projects Skill do in Starfield?

Special Projects is a Skill within the Science Branch in Starfield. It is required for certain crafting recipes, specifically high-level ones. You will run into the Special Projects Skill as you reach more difficult crafting, and the requirements are often accompanied by three to four ranks of another crafting skill.

The first rank of Special Projects allows you to craft higher-grade items, such as weapons and spacesuits. Additional ranks allow you to craft rarer crafting components. Here is what each rank of Special Projects does in Starfield.

How to get the Special Projects Skill in Starfield

Starfield's Special Projects Skill is located on the bottom and last row of Science skills. You must invest 12 points into the Science branch before the skill becomes available. Once you do, you are free to start selecting the Special Projects Skill. You can point four skill points into the Special Projects Skill to unlock all ranks of it.

Should I get the Special Projects Skill in Starfield?

Investing enough skill points into the Special Projects Skill takes quite a long time, so I recommend only going for this Skill if you are into crafting. You can find numerous weapons, space suits, and more without having to craft your own. That said, if you plan to become a master crafter in Starfield, I highly suggest investing your points into Special Projects.
