In Starfield, humans have colonies spread across the universe. They can travel between thousands of planets, but there is a question of the OG planet - Earth. While traveling between systems, I was intrigued by what happened to Earth in Starfield and whether I could visit our home planet. As with most things in this game, you can do it, but the question is how.
Why did Humans abandon Earth in Starfield?
In Starfield lore, Earth was a dying planet which forced humankind to search for ways to leave for the stars. Around 2100, scientists discovered that our planet's atmosphere will crumble entirely in the next 50 years. In the following decades, most people left for other planets and systems (like Alpha Centauri, which was colonized in 2156). Some settled on Mars, while others left the Solar system for good. By the year 2203, Earth was officially declared uninhabitable.
Starfield takes place in the year 2330, meaning Earth's destruction is now part of the interactive history tours in New Atlantis and other museums across the colonized worlds. After discovering my beloved home planet's fate, I wished to visit Earth, or what's left of it.

How to visit Earth in Starfield
To visit Earth in Starfield, you must travel to the Sol system. You'll have that opportunity early in the game as a part of the "Old Neighbourhood" quest. While you're so close, why not visit Earth? Here's how to stay in the Sol system, and Earth as one of the planets there:
- Select Sol system as a destination.
- Once in the Sol system, manually set a landing spot on Earth, as there are no pre-existing landing spots.
- Land on Earth.
- Explore the ruins of human civilization.
