What are the best 5-star monsters in Summoners War?

There are more than 1,000 monsters in Summoners War but you only want to concentrate on 5-star monsters. Later you can turn your best 5-stars into 6-star monsters by sacrificing other monsters. You can upgrade 4s to 5s but only do so to help your 5s evolve, because all the best monsters in Summoners War start as 5-star monsters.

While there are lots of types of battles in Summoners Wars, I’ve separated the best 5-star monsters into two categories below. This is because some monsters are perfect for blitzing through PVE content (such as the main story and Trials of Ascension), while others excel at attacking or defending in PVP (Guild Wars and the Arena).

Akhamamir (Wind Ifrit)

Akhamamir is only available via the Guild Shop. It is an awesome monster for those wanting to attack fast and hard, starting with its Speed-Up leader ability. It also has an AOE stun, alongside scaling damage (based on HP and debuffs) and additional DOTs. I guess it shouldn’t be a surprise that a wind ifrit is a genuine whirlwind! Up its Speed and Attack as much as possible with Runes to reach its maximum damage potential.

Elsharion (Light Ifrit)

Elsharion can only be bought in the Ancient Coin Magic Shop. Its main strength is taking buffs from your enemies and giving them to your monsters during battle. Both its specials can cause Defense Break, while simply having it in your team is going to deter attackers from putting in monsters such as Theomars and Chloe (who rely on buffing). Elsharion works well even before its skills are improved, but you may have to work hard to keep it alive without a great set of defensive Runes.

Jeanne (Light Paladin)

Jeanne can only be obtained by using Monster Fusion but is worth the effort, as it is generally considered to be the best defensive PVP monster in the game. It has a very strong Guild leadership skill, increasing ally Resistance by 55 percent. Jeanne’s Provoke ability and all-around tanking strength (very high defense and HP) make it a perfect monster for defense teams, which is further boosted by a Heal on its basic attack.

Tesarion (Fire Ifrit)

Tesarion is only available via the Guild Shop. One of its biggest advantages is being able to deal with Theomars (below), as its passive negates other passives on the opposing team. This makes it worth adding to any team that is facing strong passives, but Tesarion also puts out solid damage. Another advantage is its skills don’t need to be maxed out for it to be effective in battle.

Thoemars (Water Ifrit)

Theomars is only available via the Guild Shop. Its key skill is a passive that always gives it Elemental Advantage, meaning no attacking team can plan for it and it always reduces damage taken. Add in that this passive also makes Theomars immune to death (for one turn) and you have quite the defensive capability! If you have a good healer in your team, Theomars becomes incredibly difficult to take down.

Dark Homonculus (Unbalanced Field)

Dark Homonculus can only be gained by crafting (which unlocks at level 19) using Crystals from Rift dungeons. It is one of the most sought-after monsters for PVP offensive teams, but you need to do the work to fully skill it up before it is a genuine S-tier monster. You then have an awesome support monster thanks to its skill cooldown increase and decrease speed abilities. Dark Homonculus also strips buffs from enemies, quickly reducing them to easy targets that can only use basic attacks.

Sigmarus (Water Phoenix)

Sigmarus can only be obtained by using Monster Fusion but the effort is worth it, as many see it as the best PVE monster in the game. It does have a few negatives, being quite slow and low on HP. But its offensive capabilities more than cover for this thanks to massive AOE nuking capabilities, a top leadership skill (+44 percent HP for all allies in dungeons), and a Freeze AOE. Throw in a very powerful basic attack, and you have a monster built for clearing dungeons fast.

Veremos (Dark Ifrit)

Veremos can only be obtained by using Monster Fusion. It does HP scaling damage, which is great versus boss mobs with high HP. Its boss credentials are furthered by doing good DOT damage, while stuns are an additional and powerful bonus. Veremos also holds up well under fire thanks to its strong defensive capabilities. Veremos is also popular in PVP teams thanks to its ability to counteract the powerful Provoke ability of Jeanne (see above) through its passive Conversion ability.

Water Homonculus (Ice Mist)

Water Homonculus can only be gained by crafting using Crystals from Rift dungeons. You need to have it fully skilled for it to be effective. Once it is, you’ll have one of the best crown control monsters in Summoners War thanks to it having both Stun and Freeze abilities, while all of its attacks are AOE. It is also a flexible monster, as it can be built up as support (concentrate on Accuracy) or as direct DPS (go for damage Runes). Just to round things off, Water Homonculus auto-revives on death for a turn.

Xiong Fei (Fire Panda Warrior)

Xiong Fei can only be obtained by using Monster Fusion. While not the strongest monster, it is great in early and mid-game PVE content and still has a role to play in the late game. On the downside, it is a slow monster that needs time to build strength. In the plus column, it can take the punishment as it operates much like a tank, having high HP and Defense. Its skill set is packed with debuffs including lowering enemy attack speed, breaking its defense, and helping allies with an AOE cleanse.
