In order to earn your new Explorer Pet, you will need to get an item called an Explorer Shard. As far as I can tell, Explorer Shards can drop from any mob; you just need to Drain Soul on the enemy, and you will have a chance to earn one of these items. Interact with the Shard to learn how to summon it.

Explorer Imps allow you to inspect tears in reality to bring back bags of various kinds of loot. You can find any number of different things in these bags, from BoE level 10 wrists, level 20 shoulders, to level 30 helms. You can summon the Explorer Imp the same way you summon any other pet, and then you can interact with it. Ask it to explore a nearby rift, and it will disappear for 20 minutes. Thankfully, you can go do other things while you wait for the Imp to complete its search; once it is done, return to the Imp's location to get your loot.

Locations of Fel Portals in WoW Sod

There are currently five levels of rifts in Season of Discovery. The higher the level of the rift, the better the rewards will be inside. Here are the locations all known tears that I could find:

Level 10: Fel Sliver locations

  • Barrens
  • Westfall
  • Ashenvale
  • Darkshore
  • Silverpine Forest

Level 20: Fel Crack locations

  • Ashenvale
  • Redridge
  • Barrens

Level 30: Fel Tear locations

  • Desolace (Sargeron, Thunderaxe, Mannoroc)
  • Swamp of Sorrows (Murloc Camps Far East, Lost Ones Camp North)

Level 40: Fel Scar locations

  • Azshara
  • Blasted Lands
  • Feralas

Level 50: Fel Rift locations

  • No locations found yet. These appear not to be active in the game just yet.

How to get the Fel Guard Rune with the Explorer Imp

The new rune called Fel Guard for Warlocks is only available by delving into the portals with the Explorer Imp. It seems that only certain Fel Portals have the rune as a chance to drop, and these are: the Desolace Fel Tear, the Swamp of Sorrows Fel Tear, and the Westfall Fel Sliver. If you send your Explorer Imp into one of these portals, it has a chance to bring back the Fel Guard rune as part of the loot bag.

Mage interactions with Fel Portals in WoW SoD

Mages can also get some sweet loot from Fel Portals by using a new spell scroll called the Scroll of Spatial Mending, earned through using the Comprehension Charm Comprehension Charm on various other scrolls. You can use the scroll on a Fel Portal of any level to get gear, similar to the gear that drops for Warlocks.
