Dragonflight Season 2 offers up some of the best raid trinkets I've seen in a long time. For once, Blizzard made them significantly stronger than their Mythic Plus counterparts, giving the raid some semblance of meaning beyond bragging rights. The Ominous Chromatic Essence is no exception, sporting one of the most unique mechanics for a trinket that I've seen in a long while, and I've been playing WoW for a very long time, dear reader. As a trinket, the Ominous Chromatic Essence is highly sought out. How do you get it, you ask? Well, you've come to the right place to learn.
Where to get the Ominous Chromatic Essence Trinket in WoW Dragonflight
The Ominous Chormatic Essence is a trinket from the Aberess, the Shadowed Crucible raid introduced in Dragonflight Season 2. It drops from the Forgotten Experiments encounter, an early fight in the raid. Fortunately, the Forgotten Experiments fight is rather simplistic, even at the highest level, making this trinket not very difficult to obtain. As a raid trinket, its item level depends on the level of the encounter, with Mythic being the highest level possible.
The trinket can, alternatively, be presented to you as a reward from the Great Vault every week. Once more, the item from the vault depends on your overall progress from the raid specifically, so players who only run Mythic Plus cannot get it through this method.

How Does the Ominous Chromatic Essence Work?
The Ominous Chormatic Essence offers up a healthy dose of your class's primary stat (Strength, Intellect, Agility), but the main mechanic, and the reason it is sought out, is its unique special effect. You see, the trinket grants the user a specific secondary stat (Mastery, Critical Strike, Haste, Versatility) based on which of the five dragonflights you decide to attune to. They are the following:
- Bronze Dragonflight - Haste
- Green Dragonflight - Critical Strike
- Red Dragonflight - Versatility
- Blue Dragonflight - Mastery
- Black Dragonflight - All Stats, are evenly split
The amount of secondary stat you gain from this trinket depends on its item level. To attune to a dragonflight, you must interact with their respective oathstones, which can be found scattered all over the Dragon Isles:
- Bronze Oathstone - Found in the Thaldraszus
- Green Oathstone - Found in the Ohn'ahran Plains
- Red Oathstone - Found in the Waking Shores
- Blue Oathstone - Found in the Azure Span
- Black Oathstone - Found in the Waking Shores, within the Obsidian Citadel
Once you've interacted with an oathstone, you'll have that secondary stat permanently so long as you keep the trinket equipped. Cool trinket, right?
