While playing the Wuthering Waves Side Quest called Secret Investigation, you may encounter an error that disallows you from entering co-op mode. I'll explain why this happens and whether there's anything you can do about it.
How to solve 'Currently in Secret Investigation mission' error in Wuthering Waves
Unfortunately, Wuthering Waves doesn't send players a warning about getting locked out of co-op in certain Quests—an issue that also plagued the early days of Genshin Impact. There's also no way to pause the Quest, so the only way to break free from the loop is to complete the Secret Investigation Side Quest.
The Secret Investigation Side Quest requires you to transform into an Exile and infiltrate their camp. Every time you fail, your disguise will be removed, and you will be prompted to wait until the next in-game day at 21:00 to try again.
As a result, the game is forced to keep on transforming your character into an Exile every time you get near the Quest area at 21:00 until you finally complete the objective. This quirk triggers your world to get stuck in a loop, causing certain functions, such as multiplayer / co-op mode, to become unavailable.
How to complete the Secret Investigation side quest in Wuthering Waves
The first part of the Secret Investigation Quest is straightforward, and you won't have trouble completing it. However, it gets a little tough once you get into infiltrating the Exile Camp, so follow the steps below to complete each objective.
Q&A with Qianshan
In the Q&A section with Qianshan, you must answer three questions based on the trivia you will be prompted to read. There are no consequences to selecting wrong answers, so don't worry about this segment. Regardless, the correct answers are as follows:
- Question: What did the mother of Qiao Sheng and Qiao Yang do for a living?
- Answer: Teacher.
- Question: What was the reason for the injury on Qiao Sheng's right leg?
- Answer: Attempted shoplifting.
- Question: When does Kuixiao, a friend of Qiao Sheng's at the camp like doing?
- Answer: Studying technologies.
Infiltrate the Exile Camp
In this segment, simply follow the quest navigator toward the highlighted area in the map, which indicates the location of the Exile Camp in Lake Deerslumber. You must then change the in-game time to 21:00 the next day to complete the objective.
If clicking on the clock in the Terminal results in an error, it might be because you are engaged in battle or are being inflicted by another bug. In my experience, relogging solves the problem.
Investigate the Exiles Camp
The goal is to complete the objectives while avoiding the dogs' gazes. Once the dogs spot and scent you, it will trigger a game over, and you'll have to start the sequence of events from the beginning. You can determine they're getting close when an eye icon appears on the screen. If the eye is black, it means you're a safe distance away from the dogs. It turns red once they spot you, so be careful!
After speaking to the unhelpful Exile, follow the navigator to get to Kuixiao's location, while being careful to avoid the dogs' gazes. You need to call the elevator by interacting with the vertical terminal beside it, pictured above. Once the elevator arrives, interact with it to get to a higher floor, then follow the path upward to speak with Kuixiao.
Once Kuixiao gets out of the way, interact with the glowing blue spot to trigger a Terminal message. Then, head back down the elevator.
As soon as you get down from the elevator, speak with the Exiles up ahead so they get out of the way. There are no dogs within the immediate vicinity, so you don't have to be careful.
The next segment requires you to be extremely careful. If you get caught at this point, you'll have to begin the sequence all over again.
As soon as you finish speaking with the Exiles, follow the purple navigator and head straight ahead. You'll be directed toward the vertical mechanism pictured above, which you must interact with to destroy. The moment it's destroyed, you need to get out of the way so that the Exile Leader doesn't spot you.
The second the tower is destroyed, the Exile Leader will head toward your direction, so immediately run left. Be careful, as other Exiles on the left side might spot you, so find a middle ground, as it would be detrimental to get caught at this point.
As soon as you're in the safe middle, wait until the Exile Leader is facing the broken tower, then immediately run into the tent. This strategy allows you to infiltrate her headquarters without getting caught. Once inside the tent, act fast—investigate the chair to complete the objective.
Upon exiting the tent, the Exiles will catch you, triggering dialogue and a battle. Defeat multiple waves of Exiles to complete the objective, then return to Qianshan to turn over the Quest results. You'll finally be able to play multiplayer modes again!
