Now, I'm not a huge fan of the Legend of Zelda franchise, but I am surrounded by hardcore friends dying to know exactly when they'll be able to play the next game in its series: Tears of the Kingdom. You'd think, in this digital age, that they'd be talking about when they can start downloading it, but no, they instead ask me, all the time, if Gamestop will be having a midnight release. I was shocked to learn that there are indeed people out there willing to line up in front of Gamestop like it's a 2008 World of Warcraft expansion release.

To be frank, the answer is yes. Gamestop will be having a midnight release for Tears of the Kingdom, though we recommend calling your local store to be certain it is available right at midnight. Having been to my share of midnight releases, it is just good practice to ensure this, so you aren't wasting your time. The last thing you want is to wait in a huge line for one of gaming's most famous franchises, only to get nothing once you get through the door.
As far as details go on the midnight release itself, the information is a bit vague. The only concrete confirmation we have is that the midnight release will be happening. Again, don't expect every single Gamestop store to be following suit with this, though, as it's largely based on the individual store. Call ahead first and make sure. The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom will be released exclusively on the Nintendo Switch on May 11.
