A Non-Fungible Token (NFT) is a unique cryptocurrency token that uses blockchain technology to allow people to claim digital ownership over images, artwork, gifs, and other crypto art that can be found online. The controversy: some gaming fans do not support NFT's, because they are bought and sold with Ethereum, which is a blockchain technology that uses a tremendous amount of energy and is subsequently harmful to the environment.

Dead by Daylight fans that purchased the Hellraiser Chapter expansion are upset that the game's developers were not clear about the Killer's involvement as an NFT, before its in-game content was released. Many Dead by Daylight fans that are against NFT's, have stated that they would not have spent money towards this Chapter's Killer, if they were better informed.

Following the negative backlash surrounding their initial announcement, Behaviour Interactive states via Twitter, "Absolutely zero blockchain tech exists in Dead by Daylight. Nor will it ever. Behaviour Interactive does not sell NFTs."

That being said, The Masters of Horror NFT Collection will allow the opportunity to earn the Hellraiser Chapter expansion for the game, to those who buy into it.
