The Bewildering Wood is a dungeon located east of Thriceton, just past a wooden bridge. The monsters, especially the Sapling Treants, are a lot more powerful than those found on the world map and Western Cave. The entire area is also surrounded by fog, so you can't tile-hop your way through it.
The Bewildering Wood requires you to solve a puzzle to find its exit. So, to ensure that you don't linger in this nasty area more than you need to, here's a quick guide.

How to solve the Bewildering Wood Stela puzzle
Before you enter the Bewildering Wood, make sure you've finished the main story in Thriceton. Doctor Cyprie will give you the Woodland Flute, which you need for the last part of this puzzle.
The Bewildering Wood Stela puzzle triggers once you look at the wooden signpost near the entrance. It reads: "Seek out the four Stelae hidden deep in these woods." There's one Stela in each compass direction.
You will find the first Stella directly south of the signpost. It's located on the right side of a large tree.
The western Stela is beside the entrance. It won't appear until you've touched another Stela.
From the signpost, walk north past the Lost Man. You will find a corridor-like path. The third Stela is in the first open area you walk into.
To reach the last Stela, walk east past the Wandering Woman. Once you reach a fork, head south, then east again.
But that's not the end of it. Once you've touched all four Stelae, the game will prompt you to look for another. The last Stela is located directly above the eastern one. Just keep moving north until you reach an open area.
The protagonist will play the Woodland Flute near it, and a forest guide will be summoned to help you reach the exit. Don't forget to give her the flute!
