Despite having the description of a notorious shapeshifter, it doesn't shapeshift in the game. Players will also not see the ghost turning into human-like player models to try and lure them in.

The description of the ghost in the journal mostly is for lore behind the ghost. However, what the Obake does do, which is sort of like shapeshifting, is that it leaves behind a unique piece of evidence.

The evidence is a six-finger handprint that can be left in place of normal handprints in the game. So if you are trying to find a ghost and see a six-finger handprint, the spirit is an Obake.
