How to get the Forerunner Catalyst in Destiny 2

A subtle nod turned obvious

The Destiny 2: Bungie 30th Anniversary Event and Pack added a lot of new content to the world of Destiny. The most notable is the new Forerunner Exotic Sidearm, which the Magnum heavily inspires from Halo: Combat Evolved. Even though the Forerunner is pretty cool, it gets even better when you get the Catalyst. Here is how to get the Forerunner Catalyst in Destiny 2.

How to get the Catalyst and complete it

While actually pretty simple to get, the Catalyst will take some grinding. To get the Catalyst, you need to reach Strange Level 16. The quickest way to do this is just by completing as many bounties from Xur and Starhorse as possible while also completing runs of Dares of Eternity. Once you reach Strange Level 16, you can obtain the Anomalous Access Card from Xur in Eternity. This essentially is the Catalyst for the Forerunner.

To complete the Catalyst, you will need to eliminate 700 foes with the Forerunner across any activity. While there are no certain Activities or Boosts that grant more progress, defeating enemy Guardians either in the Crucible or Gambit will grant the most efficient progress.

What the Catalyst does

The Forerunner Catalyst will add the typical Orb-generating effect, though its real ability is where this Catalyst stands out. The Catalyst adds an ability called The Rock. After getting a final blow, players can activate the ability, which consumes some of their reserve ammo to turn their next grenade into a suspiciously familiar Frag grenade. While it doesn't have too much practical use, due to it eating a lot of your ammo, it is still a really cool ability that will excite fans of the Halo series Bungie was responsible for creating.

So there you have it, that is how to get the Forerunner Catalyst in Destiny 2. It is interesting to see how Bungie has sprinkled its history into the Destiny world, and we can't wait to find more subtle nods to their earlier games as we continue to play through the Anniversary Event.
