What do Space-Time Distortions do in Pokémon Legends: Arceus?

As a deviation from the traditional Pokémon formula, Pokémon Legends: Arceus introduces players to various new mechanics as they explore the Hisui region. One mechanic unique to the franchise in Pokémon Legends: Arceus includes Space-Time Distortions, but what do these mysterious rifts in space and time do to Hisui?

Space-Time Distortions spawn hordes of Pokémon in Pokémon Legends: Arceus. Several creatures found in Space-Time distortions are rare, and some Pokémon may even resemble variants not naturally found in the Hisuian region. Johto's Sneasel, for example, spawns exclusively in Space-Time Distortions in the Obsidian Fieldlands.

Space-Time Distortions are an excellent place to find rare or otherwise unobtainable Pokémon in this open-world adventure. After players encounter their first distortion as part of the story, these instances will continue to happen in Hisui as players explore. Look for cracks in the sky like in the image below to identify Space-Time Distortions:

Wild Space-Time distortions can be handy for farming rare Pokémon, but the rifts themselves are also uncommon. You may have to search for a while before these rifts open up, so if you're having trouble finding a Space-Time distortion, have patience. One will eventually turn up, hopefully, sooner rather than later.
