Elden Ring runs at a nice and smooth 60fps on Xbox Series X and PS5. It also runs at the same frames on PC, but considering PC owners are now used to seeing a higher frames per second count due to the capabilities of the hardware, there's some confusion about the limitation. Can it be changed?
Currently, on PC Elden Ring is locked and capped at 60fps and cannot be changed in-game officially. This has had players taking to Reddit and other forums since its release and questioning the decision from FromSoftware to implement the cap.
Presently, the word going around is that this is due to the same copy being available on consoles. So, essentially it has just been ported over to PC with the same frame rate cap that appears on the consoles, as Xbox and PlayStation are not expected to do frame rates past 60.
There is a work-in-progress mod that is available on Github to download and install. However, the creator even admits that it hasn't been tested enough yet and that it may not be foolproof. Therefore, we will not be providing instructions on how to get it at this time as it could be unreliable.
FromSoftware will most likely remove the cap via a software patch soon given that so many players are disappointed by the lock. Until then though, the game will run at 60fps at its highest point. In all honesty, it's still not a bad frame rate but we understand the want for more.
