The experience of looking at Hogwarts Legacy makes you want to share it with your friends. Though the devs have largely been quiet about the experience, one post reveals the intention of the story mode.
In a post on the PlayStation Blog, Chandler Wood, the Community Manager at Avalanche Software, explained more about Hogwarts legacy. The developer clarified that there will be no co-op in Hogwarts Legacy. It's described as a "single-player open-world action RPG," and "single-player" appears twice.

It also clarifies that the story is still only about you even when NPCs join your journey. Taking a look at the details revealed about the character in the blog post, it's clear that the player is a celebrity because they're a "survivor" of an awful event, and the developers don't want to detract from that.
Unfortunately, this does extend to all aspects of the game. There will be no multiplayer at all at launch. This is confirmed in the Hogwarts Legacy FAQ, the game is intended to be single-player only.
