How good is Sojourn in Overwatch 2 Season 2?

No worries, she will still be carrying Ranked matches.

After the nerfs to Sombra, Genji, and others in Season 1, many Overwatch 2 players had the same question: why was Sojourn untouched? Even both championship teams in Overwatch League took huge advantage of Sojourn's power. In Season 2, Sojourn has finally been nerfed, but how will it affect her play?

Will the nerf to Sojourn's Rail Gun affect her performance in Overwatch 2 Season 2?

First of all, here are all the changes that were made to Sojourn for Season 2:

  • Energy Delay for Charged Shot reduced to five seconds
  • Secondary Fire Damage Falloff now starts at 40 meters
  • Secondary Fire Critical Damage multiplier now 1.5x
  • Secondary Fire Damage now scales linearly
  • Primary Fire Damage increased from nine to 10
  • Overclock energy charge rate increased by 20%

Of all these changes, the one that will likely have the biggest impact is Sojourn's Secondary Fire Rate Critical Damage decreasing. Due to the damage falloff, Sojourn won't be able to one shot squishies (200 HP heroes) any longer.

Despite that though, Sojourn will still be a great hero in Season 2. Losing her one-tap ability with her Rail Gun actually isn't too impactful considering how the hero should be played. Many competitive players suggest burning down enemies with primary fire even with her Rail Gun charged up. This is so that if they miss the headshot, they can still earn a kill by getting some damage beforehand with the primary fire.

In fact, it only takes one headshot with Sojourn's primary weapon to get a squishy in Rail Gun KO range if it's fully charged. Skilled players will still be able to damage enemies enough to where Sojourn's Rail Gun is as lethal as it was before.

Most of the other changes to Sojourn, quite frankly, are irrelevant. Her damage falloff range now starts at 40 meters, but players should be playing within this range anyways. Even the delay for the charge shot isn't too impactful, as it's rare Sojourn's will go five seconds before finding something to shoot.
