How to upgrade your inventory in Alan Wake 2

Make space for the essentials.

You can pick up many important items in Alan Wake 2 that could mean the difference between life and death, like manuscript fragments from Lunch Boxes or weapons and healing.

As you pick up these items, you'll begin to fill your inventory, which is why it's very important that you continue to upgrade it and increase your available slots. Here's how you can do that so you can carry all the items you need.

How to increase inventory space in Alan Wake 2

At the start of the game, you'll only start with limited spaces in your inventory. Each item you pick up will take up space. Certain items, like weapons, may take up more space than smaller items would. For example, the shotgun takes up two spaces, whereas painkillers only take up one. Spaces that are marked with an X in your inventory are currently locked and will need to be upgraded to allow you to use them.

Thankfully, upgrading your inventory can be fairly easy; you'll just need to find the upgrade items. The upgrade items are found randomly around the world as you progress through the story and appear like small pouches or satchels. The first one you'll find is located within the General Store in Chapter 2, directly under the shotgun case on the wall.

Picking up the satchels will automatically increase the size of your inventory, taking away some of those Xs and giving you more space to pick up items or move items around as you please. You'll come across more of them in various locations around the map, on the ground, or in Cult Stashes.

You'll want to make sure to pick up all the upgrade satchels that you come across so you can continue growing your inventory and making room for those essential items, especially weapons that you'll need to fend off the Taken and cultists.
