Rigs play a crucial role as they significantly aid you while you're exploring the scary world of Outlast Trials. However, finding the best rig can be daunting, especially for beginners, which is why I've put together this tier list ranking all the Outlast Trials Rigs from best to worst.
Best Outlast Trials Rigs ranked
There are a total of four rigs available in Outlast Trials, and each rig grants you a different perk once equipped. Before we head to our tier list, it's worth noting that each rig costs 1x green voucher, and you can purchase it from the engineer right next to your sleep room once you attain level 2 in the game. To collect these green vouchers, you must complete a couple of trials with high grades.
X-Ray - S Tier
X-Ray is by far the most useful Rig I have purchased in the Outlast Trials. This piece of equipment allows you to see through walls, ultimately revealing the exact locations of your enemies. The X-ray rig is especially helpful when you're trying to explore new areas or rooms and are afraid of the danger ahead. Moreover, this particular Rig helps you save your night vision batteries, as it provides clear vision in the dark areas once activated.
Here's the list of X-Ray upgrades:
- Shared Intel—Your friends can see where the enemies you tag through X-Ray are
- Ressources Intel—All consumable items are shown through the X-Ray
- Classified Intel—All other items are shown through the X-Ray including Documents and Poster
- Extended Duration—Increases the duration of the X-Ray
- Battery Transfer—The Night Vision Battery is replenished when using the X-Ray
- Decreased Cooldown—Shortens the cooldown of the X-Ray Rig
- Prepared—Sets the Rig up to be available at the beginning of the Trial

Heal - A Tier
The worst situation in the Outlast Trials is when you're low on health and don't have any heals in your inventory. In such a case, the Heal Rig is pretty beneficial as it releases an aerosol gas that replenishes your health, along with the health of your nearby friends.
During my playthrough, I didn't even bother picking up the medicines from the first-aid kits while the Heal Rig was equipped. However, it's important to note that the range of the healing effect is pretty low, especially during the initial stages. Thankfully, you can increase it by unlocking the following upgrades.
- Expanded Radius—Increases the range of the healing effect
- Silent Help—Causes healing to make no noise
- Extended Duration—Increases the regeneration duration
- Detox—Causes the Heal Rig to cure Psychosis as well
- Poison—Enemies caught up in the gas will be slowed down
- Decreased Cooldown—Shortens the cooldown of the Heal Rig
- Prepared—Sets the Rig up to be available at the beginning of the Trial
Stun - B Tier
The Stun rig is a powerful throwing device that emits an electric shock, which temporarily stuns and disorients enemies. Unfortunately, this Rig is not a good choice, especially when you’re playing with friends, because the effect lasts for a very short time at the base level.
However, the Stun rig can significantly help you when you're being chased by an enemy. To use it, simply press the right-click on your mouse and throw it at your enemy. Here's the list of upgrades that you can unlock for this Rig:
- Expanded Radius—Increases the explosion radius
- Disarm—Allows you to disarm all traps caught in the explosion of the Rig
- Extended Duration—Increases the length of the stun effect on enemies
- Restore—Resets the cooldown if you didn't hit a single enemy
- Electric Boost—Gives your friends full battery and stamina if they are in the radius of your thrown Rig
- Decreased Cooldown—Shortens the cooldown of the Stun Rig
- Prepared—Sets the Rig up to be available at the beginning of the Trial
Blind - C Tier
The Blind rig is basically a landmine, just like the Hallucinations device, that will emit a temporarily blind explosion of smoke once triggered by the enemy. It also slows down the movement of your enemies when they step on it, just like the Stun Rig. However, I found it ineffective in my playthrough, as I had to monitor the enemy route first and then place the Landmine accordingly. Instead, I would advise picking up bottles or bricks to either attack or distract your foes.
Here's the list of Blind Rig upgrades:
- Expanded Radius—Increases the blast radius for the blind effect
- Deploy Technique—Shortens the time to plant the mine
- Extended Duration—Increases the blind effect on enemies
- Recharge—Reactivates your mines after they are triggered once
- Frenzy—Gives you an adrenaline boost after walking through the smoke of your mine
- Decreased Cooldown—Shortens the cooldown of the Blind Rig
- Prepared—Sets the Rig up to be available at the beginning of the Trial
