Baldur's Gate 3 features a large list of spells that can be used by certain classes and subclasses. With so many different types of spells, it can get overwhelming to choose which ones to take. I have experimented with so many spells and strategies for using them, but it all depends on your party composition and the situation you find yourself in.
Shadowheart is one of the origin characters you can play as or have join your party. She starts as a Trickery Cleric, meaning she has access to healing, buff/debuff, utility, and damage spells. Trickery Clerics can be very versatile in their spellcasting and since Clerics can prepare spells at will, you can always have the best spells for your situation.

Shadowheart Spells Tips & Tricks in BG3
As a Cleric, you will have to balance your spell list with spells of each level. You will most likely only have a couple of higher-level spells prepared, so you will have to choose which ones to prepare for your situation. There are a number of important lower-level spells you will want to always have prepared—Guidance, Healing Word, Guiding Bolt, Spiritual Weapon, and Spirit Guardians are some of the best Cleric spells to have and scale well at higher levels.
Healing Word is a great spell to have to get allies back up after being downed; Guiding Bolt is the best 1st Level damage spell you can take to also support allies with advantage on the next attack; Spiritual Weapon can be an amazing spell to not only dish out damage, but can also pull aggro and tank a bit of damage; Spirit Guardians should be a go-to spell any time there are multiple enemies grouped up. or a large amount of low-health enemies.
The spells you take will depend on how you want Shadowheart to function in the party, but as a Trickery Cleric, you can balance her spellcasting with damage, healing, and buff/debuff spells. Choosing spells for the best spell list will ensure you have the best Trickery Cleric possible.
Clerics have other great spells that do not make the list due to them being situational. Many of the spells have great use in different situations, but the ones that are on the best spell list will have the most use throughout the game.
As a Cleric, Shadowheart can provide support not only in combat, but also in exploration and dialogue. Guidance is one of the best cantrips in the game and gives you a boost in many checks throughout your playthrough.
It is important to keep note of what each spell does. You do not want to prepare a whole list of Concentration spells because you can only have one active at a time. You will also want to be aware of what spells are area-of-effect and which ones can target allies.
