How to get Spellsparkler in BG3

Sparks will fly.

The Spellsparkler is one of the most powerful weapons of Act 1 in Baldur's Gate 3. It continues to be useful throughout your entire playthrough of the game, if you know how to build around its shocking abilities.

To get the Spellsparkler, you will need to head to Waukeen's Rest in Act 1. This town is far to the north, and it has been attacked by Drow and set ablaze. Without your help, several people will die, including a wood elf NPC called Counsellor Florrick. She is a powerful figure and close to Duke Ravenguard. If you take the time to break her out of the burning building, she will reward you with both a quest chain to find the Duke as well as a choice between three different weapons.

  • Spellsparkler: A Bludgeoning magic quarterstaff with Electric Veins (when the wielder deals damage with a spell or cantrip, they gain 2 Lightning Charges).
  • Sparky Points: A Thrown weapon with Electric Blood as well.
  • Joltshooter: This is a bow filled with lightning. It has Electric Blood (when the wielder deals damage using this weapon, they gain 2 lightning charges).

Unfortunately, it doesn't seem like there is any other way to get these weapons, so you have to choose between one of the three. The best of these options is the Spellsparkler, hands down, but all three weapons are fun to use with their Lightning Charge abilities.

Lightning Charges in Baldur's Gate 3

Lightning Charges are granted by several different pieces of armor and weapons in BG3. How you get them is dependent on the piece that grants them; some items grant Charges for dashing or hitting enemies. When you have one or more Lightning Charges, you gain +1 to Attack rolls, and you deal 1 Lightning damage on hit. One charge disappears every turn. As you pile up Lightning Charges, you'll get additional benefits. If you have five or more Charges at once, your next attack deals an additional 1d8 of Lightning Damage.
