There are a lot of items worth going out of your way for in Act 1 of Baldur's Gate 3. One of these is a ring called the Whispering Promise. This ring is a boon for any healer types, including clerics, bards, and some paladins. It can only be picked up from one of four vendors in the game, and all of them are in Act 1.
Whispering Promise location in Baldur's Gate 3
There are four total vendors that can have the Whispering Promise ring in BG3. There is the human named Brem of the Zhentarim, Grat the goblin, Roan also of the Zhentarim, and Volo the Bard. Only one of the vendors will have this item, and it seems to be completely random which one ends up with it.
Brem the Zhentarim vendor
Brem is the Zhentarim vendor that you can buy Oskar the Artist from. In order to make the Zhentarim friendly enough to want to trade with you, you'll need to complete the Find the Missing Shipment quest chain on the Risen Road. There are several ways to do this, including:
- Saving Rugan from the Gnoll attack on the Risen Road.
- Picking up the shipment and returning it to the Zhentarim hideout yourself if Rugan is already dead.
- Befriend the Gnoll with the Illithid tadpole and have her kill Rugan, then take the chest back to the Zhentarim hideout yourself.
Once the chest has either been returned to the Zhentarim or you have told Rugan you will take it to Baldur's Gate for him, you will be on good enough terms to trade with Brem in the Zhentarim hideout underneath Waukeen's Rest.

Grat The Goblin Trader
Grat the Trader is located in the Goblin Camp near where Volo is singing. You will need to be on somewhat friendly terms with the camp in order to not be attacked on sight; this can be accomplished in a number of ways.
- Use the tadpole on the goblins that are guarding the entrance to the Blighted City. They will allow you through if successful, and you will be able to walk into the camp without triggering any fights.
- Be a Drow; these underground elves are considered welcome by the goblins.
- Pass the skill check with Intimidation or Deception.
- Free the captured goblin Sazza from the Druid's Grove, and she will take you to meet the three goblin leaders: Gut, Ragzlin, and Minthara.
Roah Moonglow the Zhentarim vendor
Like Grat the Trader, Roah will only be available to those who aren't fighting their way into the Goblin Camp. This halfling is a Zhentarim vendor located on the western part of the Shattered Sanctum. If you head inside the Sanctum and turn right at Priestess Gut's throne, this vendor will be up the stairs.

Volo the Bard
If you manage to save Volo from the goblins, you will be rewarded with him as a vendor in your camp. In order to save him, you'll need to interact with him as he sings outside the Shattered Sanctum. Afterward, his captor will take him back to his cage. This cage is located on the eastern side of the Shattered Sanctum, immediately past Abdirak the Pain Priest and before reaching the spider pits. You can either purchase him from his goblin captor, kill the goblin, and take the key, or you can intimidate the goblin to get the key.
Once Volo is saved, he'll go to your camp; you can trade with him by interacting with him and then pressing the Trade With button in the bottom left part of the screen during any dialogue.
Whispering Promise price and stats
The Whispering Promise is an Uncommon ring. It has a feature called Blessed Mercy, which states, "When you heal a creature, it gains a +1d4 bonus to Attack Rolls and Saving Throws for two turns." The price of it can vary depending on the Charisma of the character that speaks to the vendor first and the attitude the vendor has towards the party.
In order to raise the level of friendliness with a vendor, give them free stuff; this will make the smiley face in the bottom right corner of the trading screen move closer to the yellow and green lines. This makes purchases from that vendor a little cheaper.
