Paradox Interactive opted to use its own platform (Paradox Mods) to support modding for Cities Skylines 2 instead of using Steam Workshop, which has been the most popular way of installing mods in the last generation of the game. However, there are other ways of modding the game, which I will also discuss below.

How to install mods for using Paradox Mods

Here are the steps:

  1. Go to the Paradox Mods website
  2. Create or log into your Paradox account
  3. Go to the Cities Skylines 2 section
  4. Subscribe to a mod

From here, your account is subscribed to a mod, and whenever you launch the game, the mod will install and regularly update itself. You can also connect your Steam account to Paradox Mods, making the process simpler if you're used to Steam.

If official mods aren't your thing, you can download and install mods using third-party software such as Thunderstore. Below are the steps:

  • Download and install the Thunderstore app
  • Create an account or continue as a guest
  • Scroll down and look for Cities Skylines 2
  • Create a profile
  • Click any mod you like and install it
  • Launch the game via Thunderstore

Thunderstore will install the game into your Cities Skylines 2 files and update them automatically. You will also be asked to download BepInExPack, a framework used to make the mods work.

The process for installing Cities Skylines 2 on the console will be similar to how it's done on a PC. This is one benefit of having Paradox Mods as the main platform for getting mods.

From Paradox Mods, you need to simply link your Xbox or PlayStation Network account and then subscribe to any mod you'd like, which will then get installed or updated every time you launch the game.

With time, the Cities Skylines 2 community will find more ways to mod the game by just placing the mods into the game's files instead of using the official methods to mod the game.
