Destiny 2’s The Witch Queen has another trick up her sleeve

Get to work, Guardians.

Lightfall is nearly upon us but that doesn't mean that Savathun is done with her tricks just yet. In fact, a large announcement for all Destiny 2 players just dropped. What secrets does the Hive God of Cunning have in store for us?

Is Destiny 2 The Witch Queen free-to-play?

Players that logged into Destiny 2 today were greeted with a message that the latest expansion, The Witch Queen, would be free-to-play until February 26, 2023. That's right, all weekend long, leading up to the release of the next expansion, The Witch Queen is free for everyone.

The Witch Queen was released on February 22, 2022, and was a hit with both critics and players. It moved the story forward in significant ways with the Hive Goddess Savathun enacting a plan to kidnap the Traveler after securing the Light for the Hive. The campaign also included a Legendary mode which locked Guardians' power at a certain point and really ramped up the challenge.

While Destiny 2 touts itself as a free-to-play game, in reality, it is more of a free-to-try game. There are multiple expansions, seasons, and more locked away behind different paywalls. So, for those that haven't been able to experience The Witch Queen's incredible story, there's literally never been a better time. Go forth, Guardian. The Traveler needs you.
