What is the Fireteam Finder in Destiny 2 & how to use it

Find your people.

Having a full fire team in Destiny 2 is a luxury and even a necessity in some activities. Raids are impossible to beat solo, so unless you have five other friends standing at the ready, you'll need to find a group to raid. Since Destiny 2 currently lacks an in-game group finding feature, players have used Discord servers and other websites to complete their team of six. However, this all changes when the Fireteam Finder comes to Destiny 2. Here's an explanation of the Fireteam Finder in Destiny 2 and how to use it.

What is the Fireteam Finder in Destiny 2?

The Fireteam Finder is an in-game group finding feature, first announced on the Lightfall and the Year Ahead blog post. The Fireteam Finder allows players to host and join fireteams, finding the perfect fit for their Destiny 2 group. Players no longer have to use outside programs to find teammates, they can now discover groups through Destiny 2. Players have been asking Bungie to implement this feature for years since solo players have long felt left out, unable to partake in the magic of multiplayer experiences like raids.

How do you use the Fireteam Finder in Destiny 2?

When you open the Fireteam Finder, you have a choice. First, you can host a group, recruiting fellow players to join your activity. If you're a solo player who wants to join a partially filled group, you can instead look for a fireteam that strikes your fancy and fill one of their group spots. As the creator of a public fireteam, you have control over whether or not players can join freely. If you are wary of potential teammates, you can choose to approve or reject each player individually. If you are not worried about potential teammates, you can automatically allow players to join your fireteam.

The Fireteam Finder also allows you to state your qualifications and team preferences on the fireteam description. If you're looking for a casual, fun experience, you can signify that with fireteam keywords. If you want to assemble a competitive, hardcore team, you can also state these preferences through keywords. The Fireteam Finder feature will be released after the Lightfall expansion, closer to the end of 2023.
