Does Dragon’s Dogma 2 work on Steam Deck? (Best settings)

Lead Arisen on Steam Deck. Or not?

The game that follows Arisen's adventures was published on multiple platforms, including Steam's handheld. But does Dragon Dogma 2 work on Steam Deck, and what are the best settings?

How to play Dragon's Dogma 2 on Steam Deck

Many player reviews criticize Dragon's Dogma 2 for lack of optimization, and that applies to Steam Deck, too. The game is nearly unplayable, with many frame rate issues. Moreover, you need an experimental Proton mode activated to even run the game. Hopefully, some future patch will solve the issue, or we can trust a mod community to iron it out.

How to activate Proton Experimental Mode on Steam Deck

If you want to play Dragon's Dogma 2 despite the optimization settings (or a lack thereof), you have to activate the Proton Experimental mode. Be aware that even with this mode activated, you won't get over 10 FPS. To activate the Proton Experimental, do the following:

  • Go to your game library, hover over Dragon's Dogma 2, and press the Menu button (the hamburger one).
  • Go to Properties, then Compatibility, and find the box that says, "Force the use of a specific Steam Play compatibility tool."
  • Check that box, and select Photon Experimental from the drop-down menu.
  • Pres B several times until you go back to the Library.
