Dragon's Dogma 2 has a lot of locked-area content that you can unlock through sidequests or by simply talking to NPCs. One of these is a suspiciously locked area of a tavern, hidden in the residential area of Bakbattahl, Higgs's Tavern Stand.
In this guide, I'll elaborate on the two ways how to open Higgs's Tavern Stand in Dragon's Dogma 2 so you can access this merchant.
How to open Higgs's Tavern Stand in Dragon's Dogma 2
Using Beastren Mask to open Higgs's Tavern
If your character is a Beastren already, you can directly carry the sack to the fenced area.
The easiest way to open Higgs's Tavern stand is to equip the Beastren Mask. Once you have the Beastren Mask equipped, go to the Residential Area of Bakbattahl, where you'll find Higgs's Tavern or, at least, a part of it.
Go outside of Higgs's Tavern Stand, and you'll see two sacks beside a fenced haystack. Grab one of the sacks and put it inside the fenced area. You'll get a short cutscene with Karnel asking you to escort the "guest" to the real Higgs's Tavern Stand. Go up the flight of stairs, open the door, and you'll gain access to the true Higgs's Tavern.
Using an alternative way to open Higgs's Tavern
In my playthrough, I completely forgot to equip the Beastren Mask while carrying the sack. This scenario caused Karnel to report my character to the guards, which triggered a battle with my party. I quickly fled the scene and killed two of the pursuers.
The problem is when I came back to Higgs's Tavern with the Beastren Mask on, Karnel did ask me to escort the guest, but the door to the true Higgs's Tavern Stand was still locked. The trick to unlocking the door is by killing the NPC guard, Keith, standing beside it.
One heavenly shot later, the door to the true Higgs's Tavern Stand magically unlocks. You can now purchase three Newt Liqueurs from Ezekiel, which are required to unlock one of the most fun Vocations in the game, Wayfarer.
