The Rathalos boss fight can only be triggered by doing the collab objective during each match, which is to collect the monster tracks that appear. However, it will take several games of collecting monster tracks to trigger this special mission, requiring about 5 to 10 monster tracks (although some players said it took longer for them).

Monster tracks appear randomly during the match, usually before a round begins. You will receive a prompt on your screen stating, "Detecting monster tracks in your vicinity," meaning you should take a quick look around and try to spot the green-colored tracks on the ground nearby.

To collect them, approach the track and then hold F on PC, X on Xbox, or Square on PlayStation. There can occasionally be more than one per match, so keep an eye out for the prompt that appears on your screen.

When you've collected enough tracks, the boss fight will be triggered randomly instead of the usual mission, prompting players that the tracks have been analyzed and there is an 'unanticipated mission.'

Thankfully, the Rathalos boss fight is not just a five-person mission; it is composed of all players in the match, meaning all 10 players will work together to defeat him. Teamwork is crucial, so work together, heal each other, and make sure you revive fallen players as quickly as possible.

Since there is a time limit, the goal is to do as much damage as you can, so make sure you choose your exosuit wisely. Since Rathalos is a flying wyvern, ranged exosuits are very effective, such as Vigilant or Barrage's crossbow explosives. However, there are moments when he will land, and Murasame Alpha's icy blade becomes very useful to freeze him for a few seconds and get extra damage on him.

As the boss fight progresses, things will get more difficult. The map will break off into small pieces of land on top of lava. Try not to fall into the lava because this will continuously hurt you as long as you. You will want to keep moving; Rathalos breathes fire and slashes with his tail, so try to find a good spot on the safe ground as much as possible or place a shield.

Despite being a tanky boss, if you have the right team set up, you can grind it out before the time runs out. Aim for his tail for a critical spot. Use your ult as much as possible to deal maximum damage. When you defeat him, you'll earn a nice chunk of XP and some collab rewards.
