How to defeat Atlas in Final Fantasy 16

That's a big boy!

Hunting for marks is one of Final Fantasy XVI's side activities that can test your fighting skill and earn you valuable rewards. Marks are particularly powerful monsters that are causing trouble to the general public, and you can see a full list of them by accessing the Hunt Board. Atlas is one such creature that I faced while playing FFXVI. In this guide, I'll show you how to beat him without too much trouble!

How to beat Atlas in Final Fantasy XVI

Atlas, The Breaker of Worlds is an S-tier Hunt in FFXVI, and to beat him, you'll have to prepare yourself by stocking up on potions and ensuring you're at a decent level. Atlas is a level 45 monster that doesn't scale with you. It's possible to beat him even if you're underleveled; I've managed to beat him while being level 31, but I wouldn't advise you to fight him if you're any lower than that.

Where to find Atlas in Final Fantasy XVI

To find Atlas in FFXVI, travel to Martha's Rest on your World Map. Once you arrive at the hamlet, proceed further northeast to the Cressida region. You're looking at the easternmost point on the map. It's a circular area that looks kind of like an arena. Once you get there, you will initiate the fight with Atlas.

Tips on fighting Atlas in Final Fantasy 16

Once you initiate combat with Atlas in Final Fantasy 16, you can easily break down his attacks into these variants:

  • AoE: Atlas has an AoE attack where he calls down multiple laser strikes on the ground, covering the general area you're standing in two concentric circles. The targeting pattern looks a bit like a bullseye, so if you're unable to evade all the way out of the area, you can still stay within the first circle and be unharmed. Just make sure not to touch any marked areas. I still recommend not risking staying within the outer circle because Atlas can follow up with a second attack, making you dodge right into the AoE.
  • Sword-swiping attack: This attack is fairly straightforward, as Atlas will try to attack you with his giant sword. The swipe will be horizontal and easy to anticipate, simply dodge out of the way just before it hits, and you will be fine.
  • Golden Section: Atlas will energize his sword, extending its range in the process. He will use this attack when you create a bigger gap between you and him, using the elongated energy blade to swipe at you from side to side.
  • Saber Dance: This attack is Atlas' way of closing the gap with you. He will initiate a powerful sword combo while lunging at you.

You will have a much easier time by keeping Atlas close, as he won't be able to use three of his most powerful attacks. Take your time fighting him, and do not take unnecessary risks because his attacks do a lot of damage. Remember to heal when you need to, and don't allow your HP to become too low to prevent getting nuked by one of the more powerful abilities.
