Square Enix's Final Fantasy series is one of the oldest and most well-known RPG series, with varying stories, worlds, and systems. Final Fantasy XVI is set to be the latest entry in the series, with many fans looking forward to it. However, one question you may have is in regards to its combat system, and whether Final Fantasy XVI is turn-based.
Does Final Fantasy XVI have turn-based combat?
The answer is no for those wondering if Final Fantasy XVI is turn-based. Like the past few Final Fantasy titles, Final Fantasy XVI is not using turn-based combat but instead opts to use action RPG combat. It appears to combine Devil May Cry and God of War to create a blend of the two.
This gives Final Fantasy XVI a real-time action-based combat system. Players can dodge, attack, and use magic without waiting for their turn. This is similar to later Final Fantasy titles, such as Final Fantasy VII Remake. Those who prefer the turn-based tactics of older Final Fantasy games will need to adjust their expectations.
Final Fantasy XVI's action-orientated combat will focus on Clive, with players primarily controlling the central protagonist. Party members and allies will act independently, and will not require player input. They also cannot be controlled in combat, so players can only use Clive.
