What characters are in Final Fantasy XVI?

Clive Rosfield is the firstborn son of the Archduke of Rosaria. He is poised to inherit the Phoenix's flames and become its Dominant. Instead, that honor fell to his younger brother, Joshua. Clive then took up the sword and became the First Shield of Rosaria and was charged with guarding the Phoenix. However, after an encounter with Ifrit, his fate is left with a great deal of uncertainty.

Joshua Rosfield is the secondborn son of the Archduke of Rosaria and Clive's younger brother by five years. Despite the great destiny thrust upon his shoulders, Joshua remains grounded and kind to all around him. Bound to Clive as he is, his world is turned upside down after Ifrit enters the picture.

Jill Warrick is the adopted sister of the Rosfield brothers. She was born in the fallen Northern Territories and became a ward of Rosaria. Despite not being related by blood, she is nonetheless very close with her brothers.

The Eikons shown were Garuda, Titan, Phoenix, Ifrit, Shiva, Odin, Ramuh, and Bahamut. Eikons are tremendously powerful creatures. They are tied to a Dominant which is a mortal blessed with the ability to summon the terrifying creature. While some nations like Rosaria lift up their Dominants, other nations bind them out of fear and use them as weapons.

The World of Final Fantasy XVI

Valisthea is a magical land dotted with Mothercrystals. These Mothercrystals are crystalline mountains that climb up into the sky and flood the surrounding area with aether. The peoples of this world have flocked around these Mothercrystals and used the magicks to build comfortable lives for themselves. However, the tenuous peace between each of these nations threatens to break as the spread of the Blight sweeps through the lands.

The Nations of Valisthea

  • The Grand Duchy of Rosaria: The Dominant of the Phoenix serves as the Archduke of this coalition of provinces. Rosaria is situated near the Mothercrystal of Drake's Breath. Despite many years of prosperity, this region is threatened by the spread of the Blight.
  • The Holy Empire of Sanbreque: Sanbreque is a theocracy whose people worship their Holy Emperor as the living incarnation of the one true deity. It was founded around the Drake's Head Mothercrystal.
  • The Kingdom of Waloed: Situated on the eastern half of Valisthea, Waloed is just now entering a time of peace after subduing the rebellions of the orcs and beastmen. It makes use of the Drake's Spine Mothercrystal.
  • The Dhalmekian Republic: Made up of five states with elected members of parliament serving as representatives for their people is the Dhalmekian Republic. The Dominant of Titan serves as a special advisor to this parliament and has a large amount of sway. Their kingdom was built around the Drake's Fang Mothercrystal.
  • The Iron Kingdom: Made up of a small group of islands off the coast of Storm in the western half of Valisthea's twin Realms, the Iron Kingdom stands in stark contrast to the other five. The Mothercrystal, Drake's Breath, sits at the center of one of their islands where it is worshiped by the people. They remain isolated from the other nations and execute any Dominants born in their lands.
  • The Crystalline Dominion: Serving as an amalgamation of the other nations due to its position in the center of Valisthea, The Crystalline Dominion is built around the Drake's Tail Mothercrystal. There is no Dominant that calls this place home.
