Starting in March 2022, players using the Steam launcher for Final Fantasy XIV will have to link their Steam accounts with their Square Enix account to further bolster security for the popular MMO. A new launcher layout accompanies this service link, which all Steam players will have to transfer over to when the game launches going forward.

When the latest Final Fantasy XIV expansion, Endwalker, was released, Square Enix halted sales of the game until the team could prepare measures to ensure all players could have the best possible experience with the game as they beefed up servers. The team also had plans to enhance the PC port's security protocols, which this news seems to be a response to.
