One of the biggest contributors to the success of critically-acclaimed MMORPG Final Fantasy XIV is its cross-platform availability. Particularly, people can opt to play it on their PC and PlayStations. As an MMO, the game is already fully optimized for PC. However, what if you want to play it on your PS4? Is it worth upgrading your console to a PS5 just to play FFXIV?
There is no significant graphical difference between the PS4 and PS5 versions of FFXIV. The UI on the PS5 just looks a lot crisper, and many character features are better highlighted, such as collarbones. It's often compared to the PS4 Pro experience at maximum settings.Â
Though, loading screens are much faster on the PS5 because of the console’s built-in SSD.
Unfortunately, some users have also reported unstable frame rates when playing FFXIV on the PS5’s 4K option. As such, it’s recommended to play the game on the usual 1440p. Anyway, there’s little to no difference in draw quality.
However, the PS5 DualSense controller has an improved haptic feedback system that makes traveling around Eorzea feel more immersive. For example, mere walking feels like a dream, and the pitter-patter experience is different depending on the terrain. Its adaptive triggers apply to certain actions as well. It's worth playing FFXIV on a PS5 for the DualSense alone.
