How to beat Hesperos in Final Fantasy XIV

Time for some vampire hunting

In the first tier of the new Pandaemonium raids, the final boss of the tier is Hesperos. A fearsome vampiric foe, Hesperos has a few unique mechanics and can be a difficult boss to tackle.

To beat Hesperos you simply need to know the fight pattern. Hesperos always starts off with a tank buster called Elegant Evisceration. If you’re a tank, mitigate this, and if you’re a healer, keep an eye on the tanks.

Next, the entire arena will be covered by Hersperos’ cape. This will cause one of four attacks to happen. The first is always Thunder, but the rest are random. Here are the possible attacks and what to do

  • Thunder - Move away from the center of the map
  • Water -  Group in the middle
  • Poison - Spread
  • Fire - Stack

This mechanic will repeat several times, and you’ll need to avoid each effect each time.

The next major mechanic is a series of stacks which will have an icon with a red cross in it. No tanks should absorb the stack with a shield and cross, no healers in green cross with a red cross, and no DPS in the sword with the red cross. This will deal minor damage if you do it correctly, but more will pile on the more mistakes you make.

Next, the boss will signal for an attack by placing a red marker.

  • If it's a sword, after a cast, he’ll dash to this area and attack the rest of the arena. Position yourself parallel to the red marker, behind his huge cleave attack to avoid.
  • If it's a cloak, then it's the same move, but a knockback. Move as close as possible or use knockback resistance.

Next is an orb mechanic, similar to the final Ascian fight in Heavensward. Someone else needs to tank the orb tethered to you. But just like the previous stack mechanic, this orb will have a symbol with a red cross. Again healers, tanks and DPS should avoid orbs marked with their symbol and a red cross.

After this, the mechanics will repeat until the boss is dead. Good hunting!
