Xbox Live accounts and subscriptions are two different things. The crucial difference between them is cost. Microsoft recently changed its services to allow all players to play Free-to-Play games online without setting up an Xbox Live subscription. Since Fortnite is a Free-to-Play game, it is included in the list. Most players already have an Xbox Live account set up regardless of whether they have they online subscription. This means that if you're on your Xbox and you're able to connect to the internet to purchase or download games, then you can play Fortnite at no cost!
How to create an Xbox Live account
To create an Xbox Live account, you need to select Add New from the Xbox home screen on your console. Next, fill out your email and make sure it is the same email as your Microsoft account. If you do not have a Microsoft account, you need to create one by going over to the official Microsoft site and following the steps to create an account. But if you already have an account, just use the same email and follow the steps until you can select a gamer tag. After choosing your tag, you will be able to use the Xbox Live account to play live service games
