How to Break the chains that bind Scylla in Genshin Impact – The Last Day of Remuria

Is Scylla a whale or a dragon?

The Last Day of Remuria is a Genshin Impact World Quest in the Canticles of Harmony: Second Movement - Prisoner in Shackles series, which takes place in an underwater region hidden within Petrichor. One of the primary objectives of the quest is to break the chains that bind Scylla, who has been subdued in the Sea of Bygone Eras.

There are three "chains" that bind the whale-like dragon, Scylla, but the chains look more like glowing lines that direct you to three areas within the Sea of Bygone Eras. Your goal is to follow the chains toward each area and solve three puzzles to complete the objective. While they can be completed in any order, I recommend following the order below to avoid running into potential bugs.

Chain #1 (battle)

Before starting, I suggest taking a battle-ready team with a Geo shield breaker as the golems in Petrichor have Geo shields. Once you're ready, follow the first chain toward the southern part of the Sea of Bygone Eras, into the cave located in the area circled above. Inside the cave, you'll encounter three golems. Defeat them to trigger dialogue.

After the dialogue is complete, use the special interact button to switch to symphony mode, then press and hold the Elemental Skill button in front of the tower (as pictured above) to release a soundwave. Doing so will trigger a small cutscene where the chain is released from Scylla. If this doesn't happen, go closer to the tower and try again. Don't forget to claim the Exquisite Chest reward that spawns after.

Chain #2 (trust dialogue)

Follow Scylla's chain to the northwest section of the Sea of Bygone Eras, which will take you to a small land area called the Portus Anticus. Approach the guards to trigger dialogue. Your goal is to gain the Leader's trust so that they leave the area. Respond with the following:

  • The Sebastos does not permit the harm of innocent people.
  • Yet you are not receiving the melody.
  • Phobos's silence signifies rejection.

The guards will promptly leave the area. Once they're gone, a glowing spot will appear beside the sword on the rock. Interact with the glowing spot to dig out an Exquisite Chest with rewards.

Additionally, as the guards are gone, you can now break the chain binding Scylla. Climb the nearby cliff and get close to the tower pictured above. Like before, use the special interact button to switch to symphony mode, then press and hold the Elemental Skill button to release the chain. A cutscene will trigger to signify completion.

Chain #3 (symphony puzzle)

Follow the final chain toward the Hortus Euergetis, located east of the Sea of Bygone Eras. You'll find a small clearing with Washer Octopuses circling glowing flowers. Each Octopus is surrounded by a barrier, which can resonate with the flower-shaped anemone. Your goal is to wait for each Octopus' barrier to encapsulate all the flowers around it, then use the soundwave to lock it into place.

There are four Octopuses in the area, so approach them one by one in any order. Let the Octopus float freely until its barrier encapsulates all nearby flowers, as pictured above. As soon as this happens, switch to symphony mode and use the Elemental Skill button to release a shockwave that will lock the Octopus in place. It should stop moving at this point.

The task is only successful if the symbol on top of the Octopus changes from a music note to a quarter note rest. If it doesn't change, the Octopus will continue to move. Don't worry as you can keep trying until it works—closing the distance helps.

Do the same for all four Octopuses so they resonate with all of the anemones/flowers. Doing so will trigger a quick cutscene, allowing you to proceed with the chain-breaking.

Approach the top of the tower, switch to symphony mode, and press and hold to release a shockwave. This time, a daydream sequence will trigger. When it's over, press and hold to release another shockwave to trigger a cutscene where Scylla is finally freed. Don't forget to claim your Precious Chest reward.
