The Water That Failed to Transcend is a Genshin Impact boss material that can be farmed from the Hydro Tulpa. It's used as a character Ascension material for Furina and possibly other Fontainian characters in the future as well.
There are no unlock requirements for the Hydro Tulpa and it's easily visible in the World Map. But if you're having trouble finding the entrance to its cave or farming its drops quickly, I'll show you a few tips and tricks in this guide.
Where to find the Hydro Tulpa in Genshin Impact - Water That Failed to Transcend Location
The Hydro Tulpa is located in an underwater cave in the Court of Fontaine region. To get there, head to the Teleport Waypoint in the Chemin de L'Espoir, located in the western part of the underwater area. Then, swim toward the exact location circled in the image above, where you'll find the entrance of a cave. Swim inside and follow the path forward.
Keep swimming forward until you find what looks like a Hydro barrier. You don't have to solve any puzzle—just swim through the barrier to find yourself on a small patch of land with a large clearing housing the Hydro Tulpa. Don't forget to unlock the Teleport Waypoint for easy navigation when farming.

How to farm Water That Failed to Transcend in Genshin Impact – Hydro Tulpa battle guide
The Hydro Tulpa is immune to Hydro, so make sure not to have any Hydro character in your team. I recommend bringing Elements that can React with Hydro—especially Dendro, as Bloom Reactions shred the boss' HP quickly. However, Pyro, Cryo, and Electro units also perform very well in this battle. Geo characters also perform decently as the boss doesn't have a Hydro shield, but beware as its summons have small Hydro shields.
The boss doesn't have crazy mechanics (unlike the legendary Golden Wolflord), so the battle is fairly straightforward. Since the boss is in a constant state of Hydro, you can spam Elements that React with Hydro to quickly shred its HP. Throughout the battle, the boss will summon mini enemies with Hydro shields, which you must defeat as quickly as possible using Reactions. If not defeated, the boss will absorb the summons and become stronger.
After defeating the boss, spend 40 Original Resin on the Ley Line Blossom to claim up to three Water That Failed to Transcend.
