Players who get goosebumps from disturbing imagery might find Genshin Impact's upcoming Weekly Boss slightly discomforting to look at. According to leaks, this update will introduce what was initially described as a "Dendro Dragon." However, it seems that the meaning of "dragon" can stretch to the depths of the abyss, as what was unearthed in leaked imagery looks nothing like Dvalin, the Red Vultures of the desert, or the draconic friend you always wished you had.
Meet Apep, a green, slimy, incomprehensible being that looks like it was born of a spider and a maggot that laid curses that seeped into the molecular structure of its genes, and perhaps a very distant cousin to the majestic Jadeplume Terrorshroom due to its billowy arms (are those even arms?). It's hard to describe what this alleged Weekly Boss looks like, but you can see for yourself below, thanks to leaker @merlin_impact.

An earlier leak described this abomination as a being that makes people feel nauseous and physically uncomfortable, and it's hard to see why not. Apart from its image, little has been revealed about Apep from the 3.6 beta. What other leakers claim, however, is that players looking forward to Baizhu and Kaveh may have no choice but to face this boss to farm Talent materials.
Meanwhile, a leak from the now-deleted @genshinBLANK account from four months ago claims that this Weekly Boss may include two forms across three transformations. This will allegedly bring a mix of 2D and 3D gameplay into the weekly grind. It's also allegedly capable of summoning creatures like the Oceanid, called the Seed of Arjuna, Ashura, and Karna.
Apart from the rather disturbing imagery, players may be concerned about the presence of 2D gameplay, which will likely mimic the Dvalin Weekly Boss battle. This system has been met with polarizing opinions, as the limited point of view can make it difficult to control characters on the field. Genshin Impact hasn't explored 2D battles since the game launched in 2020, so their execution this time around will be interesting to watch—if the leak were to be believed, that is.
